FLOYD MAYWEATHER SPEAKS MORE ON ADRIEN BRONER AND KEY TO VICTORY FOR ASHLEY THEOPHANE: "IT'S ALL ABOUT GROWING"
By Ben Thompson | March 25, 2016
"What I try to tell Ashley is this, is there a blueprint on how to beat Adrien? Absolutely. The thing is this, Ashley, his style is similar to a Maidana. One thing we know, we know Ashley is no quitter, so he's not going to quit. He's not the kind of guy who's going to have any excuses," stated retired undefeated former pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather, who revealed the advice he gave to his fighter, jr. welterweight contender Ashley Theophane, in the days leading up to his upcoming title clash with four-division world champion Adrien Broner. According to Mayweather, former world champion Marcos Maidana revealed the blueprint on how to defeat Broner and he thinks Theophane has the same type of attributes to execute that game plan.
"You know, I take my hat off to Adrien though. I always told Adrien this, Maidana is a rough and tough fighter; he's a tough competitor. But what I told Adrien is this, when you win a world title...you gotta realize this, Adrien won a world title because it's all about timing and it's all about putting fighters in certain positions, and Al Haymon is the best at putting certain fighters in certain positions and making sure the right opponent is chosen," Mayweather stated during a recent conversation with FightHype.com. "So I used to tell Adrien, 'Adrien, you undefeated, but in due time, once a guy is put in front of you that you can hit, that won't go down, that's throwing the same hot shyt that you're throwing, then we'll see what you are made of.' You gotta realize, a guy like Maidana, you can knock Maidana down, he gonna get right back up and throw his hot shyt and knock you down. You gonna have to be able to get up and keep fighting."
After speaking about the fight, Mayweather also addressed Broner's response to his comments regarding the infamous Walmart video. "What's so crazy is that they say an ass whoopin' or getting your freedom taken away can sometimes humble you or it can put you in a different place mentally. I think that when Adrien lost to Maidana, I feel like it humbled him to a certain degree, and I was the first one to have his back when he lost to Maidana like, 'I'm still here for you.' But then once again, I mean, Al put him in a position again to fight for a world title or to make good money, and he goes back to the same old ways," he explained. "He goes back to acting like the Adrien Broner that was 21. What these fighters gotta learn is they have to grow mentally. You can no longer grow physical, so you have to grow mentally. It's no different from when I was 19 to 39; you look at the growth. It's all about growing."
Mayweather added, "I was just basically speaking from the heart. Like I've said in the past, I just feel like I'm blessed way beyond belief. It took 20 years. People have seen me flaunt a lot of cash, flaunt my wealth, but I didn't do anything to hurt anyone's feelings. You gotta realize, it's all about having personality. It's all about building a character and having personality, but you have to do it in a certain way and a certain manner. I built a brand; not just the TMT brand, but the Mayweather Promotions brand. It was about taking the Mayweather name to the next level, not just in the ring, but outside the ring as well. I feel like I'm blessed way beyond belief. I'm very appreciative and I'm very thankful that throughout the years I was able to build a worldwide fan base."

You talking about the growth it took you from 19 to 39 to complete which is 20 years in the sport.....Broner started at 18 and is only 26. Why not allow him the same amount of time to grow?
