A source with knowledge of the situation has advised BoxingScene.com that a potential fight between Andre Ward and Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin is being held up by the weight.

From what BoxingScene was told, Golovkin's side is insisting on a catch-weight of 164-pounds.

There have been conversations between Roc Nation Sports (who have Ward) and K2 Promotions (who have Golovkin), but those discussions have gone absolutely nowhere because the two sides are unable to get past the issue of weight.

Ward (28-0, 15KOs) returned to the ring last month to grab a ninth round TKO over Paul Smith. Golovkin (33-0, 30KOs) retained his WBA/IBO middleweight titles in May with a sixth round TKO of Willie Monroe Jr. Both fighters are expected to return in the fall.

Ward, who hasn't weighed under 166 since November of 2006, fought Smith at a catch-weight of 172-pounds.

The Olympic gold medal winner has informed his promoter that he wants to face Golovkin next, but he won't drop down in weight to make it happen - especially after Golovkin's team offered the full super middleweight limit of 168 to both Carl Froch and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

"Ward wants to fight Golovkin and he wants to fight him next. But it won't happen at 164-pounds. By accepting 168 with Carl Froch and Chavez Jr, but then demanding 164 with Ward - it's their way of saying 'we don't want to fight Andre Ward," the source told BoxingScene.com.

By agreeing to 168 with JCC and Froch, it was the B-side playing by the rules of the A-side.

Bndre, that's how this game works.

Like I said in the other thread where Bndre said a whole bunch of nothing. All that talk sounded good but not a single word about the very clear terms the A-side laid out :francis:

For fights like this a catchweight is fair imo and I wish Loma/Rigo would have one.

But when :shookboy: running around saying anyone from 154-168 can get it including Ward while we were in promoter Bolivia, now that the fight can actually take place the "bbbbbut" s come out.

They don't need each other at this point they can make money elsewhere. (Ward will be making more as usual tho :sog: )

I'm assuming since he is the A side Ward should get a smaller piece of the pie as well too right? Then you realize GGG got a million n some change for Monroe Jr and Ward got 2 mill for Smith :francis:
he siad 50/50 split.

what the fighters get paid has nothing to do with being the A side.

Things tend to change over 2 years :heh:

50/50 money split and 164lbs. GGG team came out and said that straight up.

Who doesn't want the fight if Andre doesn't agree with that? :sas1:

Down to fight Froch in the UK...but only in Wembley or London. Froch camp is like "Fam, you're a nobody in the UK, if the fight is in Nottingham we're doing stadium numbers and everyone gets a huge payday" b-b-b-b-but wanting the fight in Nottingham where it does the best business means Froch didn't actually want the fight :pachaha:

"They laid out clear, fair terms and tried to make progress on the deal but that means they didn't actually want the fight" is Bndre's new thing now :deadmanny:

:francis:

how is he the A side if there's a 50/50 split?

Can you show me an example of ONE fighter who was the definte "a side" splitting the money 50/50.

Neither are ppv stars and Ward has made more money the times theyve similar opponents. For Ward its the rare instances we fight jobbers for GGG it's his whole resume.
