...just guess... :sas1:

Really, before scrolling down, just guess which episode it is and why...

:sas2:

Season 5, episode 6... Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken

Why? :dwillhuh:

Because of *spoilers*

an OFF-SCREEN rape at the very end of the episode. :dahell:

That's right. Despite ALL that's been SHOWN on this show...
-Baby's getting their throat slit? No problem
-Families brutally massacred during their wedding? No problem
-Father brutually murdered in front of his kids? No problem
-Castration? No problem
-Children being burned alive? No problem

...and I'm just flowing off the dome. THIS somehow crossed the line for critics and fans. :heh:

Ridiculous. :snoop:

It's the only thing that sparked real conversation, which softened the response to the implied child rape/murder later on, with that little Asian girl that was there to sweep floors, but got served up like food.

I know people who showed up to work disgusted the next day so I'm not shocked however it didn't bother me much it didn't even show anything we seen a lot worse :manny:

Cacs fine with Incest though :troll:

The rapes and incest were key parts of the original story. They just threw in a random rape of a central character by another central character that didn't even happen in the book. It was random and stupid and fukk. And yeah, disgusting because it was only for shock value, not to further the story line.

The backlash over the episode was two fold.

1. It doesn't happen in the books (to Sansa). Fans have been upset that the show has invented rapes for the show that don't happen in the books and following the Jaimie/Cersei rape, this was the final straw for some.
2. Littlefingers decision to marry Sansa to the Boltons doesn't make much sense when you scrutinize it.

Those two points made it seem like they invented this for shock value.

I do think they did a solid job of cleaning up the mess in season 6 but at the moment it occurred, it made sense for a lot of fans to be pissed off.

That's not even accounting for the awful Sand Snake, Jaimie/Bronn fight that took place in this same episode. That was arguably the worst action sequence in the entire run of the series.

The minute it became obvious that Sansa was going to be getting the "Jeyne Poole" storyline then book readers should have realized where things were heading and toughened the fukk up.

The argument of "it was different in the book" is/has/and forever will be bullshyt. But ok, some fans want a direct, impossible translation of text to screen, whatever. Many things have been changed, no big hoopla about it. Hell, are fans just going to stop watching since they're ahead of the books? :heh:

That sandsnakes fight was by far the worst segment I can remember from the show, I'll admit that :pachaha:

And bad things happen to fan favorites all of the time. The problem is that the fans of this show have grown sofT as cotton.
