Like in our films, Russia is usually the enemy. Is that the same way we are viewed in most foreign moves....as the villain?

Or in like disaster movies, the world is basically depending on us to lead or to save the world while other countries take a backseat. What is our role in disaster films ?

What is our role in War films?

most foreign movies i've seen make no mention of the US. they're movies that revolve around what's happening within that country, not other countries. that could be due to budget restraints or lack of interest in telling some far-fetched story that poorly constructed anyways. that's how i feel about some movies that make other countries enemies or movies that make the enemy out to be some older relic or remnant of the cold war, they're not very good stories to begin with. and then you add some inflated budget in an attempt to add quality...

they tend to concentrate on their social issues and political dilemma.

America is the one shytting on everyone..

oh Chinese cinema loves throwing jabs at Japanese..

Ehh well the American movie industry is mostly about the bottom line and it's a business first and foremost . Indie movies arent that important while in other countries film is treated like art more it seems . :yeshrug:

I was told by a French chick who just moved here from Britain and she said that, if anything, their flicks portray us as idiots. She says we have a pretty bad rep for being known as idiots over there in general.

yup, I've seen a lot of foreign movies portraying Americans as some pop-culture stereotypes. We are all loud, and trying to be cool all the time. Bollywood can be bad about this. If you have HBO Latino, watch some of the movies. They make Mexicans look like the coolest, smartest people on the planet, while Americans are dumb and way over the top. They always make Mexican officials look smart as hell, while American political types are corrupted idiots. You can just feel the arrogance of the Mexican aristocracy and the folk wisdom the common folk are portrayed with. There was one movie about a brother and sister from Guatemala trying to get to the US. They were shytting on Mexicans, then on the greedy culture of America making every adult work. I think American movies are very self critical compared to others I've seen, though Bengali movies are some serious self-ether and a lot of Indians hate them for that reason.
