American Teens Aren't Excited About Virtual Reality

While 29% percent of teens polled owned a VR device -- versus 87% who own iPhones -- only 4% of headset owners used it daily, the investment firm found, and 14% used them weekly. In addition, teenagers didn't seem that interested in buying forthcoming VR headsets. Only 7% said they planned to purchase a headset, versus 52% of teens polled who were unsure or uninterested. The survey results suggest that virtual reality hardware and software has yet to catch on with the public despite billions of dollars in investment in the technology from Big Tech companies and a number of low-cost headsets on the market. Teenagers are often seen as early adopters of new technology and their preferences can provide a preview of where the industry is going.

I actually tried metaverse and it looked like shyt, was uncomfortable to wear, and it felt less “fun” than a modern day console.

It feels like a vanity project. Like Zuck saw “ready player one” and wanted to make that even though the technology to do it isn't even remotely ready.

Our boys wanted an Oculus in the worst way, played it for a month post Christmas and then meh.

“Lawnmower Man” back when was sign enough that VR isn’t going to be it.
My son still plays his faithfully with his group of school friends but all they play is Gorilla Tag, never anything else.

VR is a neat gimmick, but I can't imagine gaming in it for more than 15 mins because I get motion sickness off that ish like I'm on a boat in a storm. I did get excited when I saw some of the sports uses (watch ONE FC fights cageside, an app to watch NBA games like you're courtside); but even those feel like gimmicks. I'd use it for a few minutes then switch to the tv.

If headsets weren't so expensive, I might still splurge after a good betting week or something. PSVR2 + Resident Evil first-person games sounds fun for a horror head...just not worth 600 dollars (not even half that tbh).
