A Los Angeles restaurant has been granted permission to consume and sell dog meat. A Filipino group successfully argued that the banning of the consumption of dog meat violated their religious rights.

Puchow de Manila Eatery and Fine Dining has been granted provisional permission to sell and consume dog meat, while the Supreme Court decides if their case has merit. The restaurant is allowed to slaughter up to 3 dogs per day, with the stipulation that they must be put down humanely. The World Animal Protection agency called the decision “shocking,” and vowed to fight tooth and nail to ensure this act is not allowed to continue.

In the Philippines today, there is an abundance of dog meat sold in restaurants and markets. The meat is as sold for as little as $1.30/kg. The trading and selling of dog-meat brings in nearly 3.8 million U.S. dollars per year, and nearly 500,000 dogs are killed for meat every year.

Eleven regions around the globe still consume dog meat. Those being: China, Indonesia, Korea, Mexico, Philippines, Polynesia, Taiwan, Vietnam, the Arctic, Antarctic, and Switzerland.

Puchow de Manila Eatery and Fine Dining says the dishes will range from American styled cuisine such as Chihuahua Chops to Korean-inspired dishes such as Boshintang (dog soup).

:scust: but you can't talk if you eat pork. Pigs are actually very intelligent animals. U.S. slaughter houses are a abomination. I'm slowly cutting back my consumption of meat.

Origins: On 10 November 2014, the web site TheNewsNerd published an article positing Los Angeles restaurant Pugon de Manila Eatery and Fine Dining was granted "provisional permission" to serve dog meat after its owners successfully argued a ban on that form of food violated their religious freedom:

The restaurant is allowed to slaughter up to 3 dogs per day, with the stipulation that they must be put down humanely. It's worth noting the idea of a dog meat ban is a bit misleading. California bans the consumption of pets, but laws about eating uncommon meats vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction and most commonly fall under animal cruelty laws. There is a restaurant called "Pugon de Manila" in Texas, but none in Los Angeles as claimed in the article. And the image used to illustrate the article was swiped from earlier New York Times coverage of a dog meat festival in China.

Mainly, however, the original claim is clearly hogwash because it originated with one of several fake news sites that publish material designed to gin up outrage at imaginary injustices. A disclaimer at the bottom of the article notes that:
The stories posted on TheNewsNerd are for entertainment purposes only. The stories may mimic articles found in the headlines, but rest assured they are purely satirical.
Among other "satire" pieces published on the site are a story about an Ebola vaccine effective only on white people, a version of the fake report that Colorado legalized hard drugs after legalizing marijuana, and a claim that The Walking Dead's Danai Gurira contracted the Ebola virus.

The World, but from BK
:yeshrug: I always said: All it takes is for an animal to be on a menu for people to get used to it. What makes any animal different from the next?
