So, if you say that you are anally retentive in a casual conversation, it really means that you are a perfectionist. The phrase has been paraphrased down to "I'm really anal" or something like that and it means the same thing.
So when a female says that, it's kind of crazy, at least to me. My demonic thoughts are like

So Freud said if you have trouble in the anal stage, you will retain the traits associated with having trouble taking a shyt (a need to control your BM, stubbornness when you're trying to get a dry, constipated log out of you, orderliness from keeping clean after the dump, etc.), thus the term anal-retentiveness, or anal for short.
