Can't find the official thread. I'll repost it there once there is a link. Haven't read the reviews, but imo, this is a good film but not on Oscar quality level. Now, I didn't get the hype with Michelle Williams last year in Manchester. But in this film she killed everybody. Christopher Plummer did his things no doubt. But to me I really wanted to get to know him as a character. The grandson kidnapped was nothing special. Neither was Mark Wahlberg. I was bored at some parts. Not saying this is a bad film. It was good. Especially the first half. But Oscar worthy. Not to me. Seen way better Oscar films this year. Probably in the minority on this but oh well.

Once they axed Kevin spacey I was off it. It didn't help that I familiar with the real story so it took all of the suspense out of it similar to Argo

A Ridley Scott mess....mostly. You get a good, if offbeat and out of sync Michelle Williams, a really good Christopher Plummer, a bizarrely miscast Walhberg, in a stilted, awkward, unconvincing performance. It's a steep price for a 2 hour and 20 min movie. The Italian Calabrese kidnapper was good too, as good as the hamfisted writing allowed.

Cornfields, cows, & an one stoplight town
Christopher Plummer deserves every fukking award for memorizing that much dialogue and delivering it flawlessly in less than a month. It was as if he were born to play this character.

For those unfamiliar with this story, it’s the tale of John Getty and his grandson who was kidnapped for ransom. The cheap b*stard was the richest man in the world at the time, and didn’t want to waste a cent to get his grandson back. The boy’s ear was cut off, and he never recovered from the trauma. He ended up paralyzed after becoming a drug addict. The movie doesn’t get into all of that though. Just the drama of getting him back and what his mother (played wonderfully by Michelle Williams) had to go through in negotiating with her stingy ex-father-in-law in order to get the ransom. There’s a special place in hell for rich people who put artwork above the lives of their kin.

Anyway, I found All the Money in the World entertaining, but it did feel like they stretched out a simple story to make a two hour drama, and when I read up on the real case, that is exactly what they did. They added a lot of unnecessary drama to make it more juicy, and it felt that way. Also, this movie left me feeling so fukking disturbed that there are people like this in the world. All credit goes to Christopher Plummer, Michelle Williams, and the script writer, because the dialogue was on point and the delivery really took it to another level. I think for Ridley Scott this was a bit underwhelming, but better than some of his more recent efforts.

I’d give it a 6/10 for pacing, towards the end, it sorta drags, but overall it was entertaining.
