Albert Hughes: Dead Presidents is flawed, took years for them to think Boyz N the Hood was a good movie, American Me is better than every hood film.

Run down for those who not clicking.

They were shocked that all the critics loved Menace cause it wasnt the movie they thought they were making.
Dead Presidents gave them too much power and not enough push back. So they ended up doing stuff it didnt need.
It took years for them to appreciate Boyz N the Hood cause of the competition. But felt Easy Z's had a point with the After School Special.
Felt 2nd hand embarrassed for Boyz N the Hood at the jokes it got in Menace II Society.

Edit; Had to update :patrice: :why: .... Blood in Blood Out was better than American Me.

Filmmakers can critique other peoples work harsher than any critic. It was a Russian filmmaker who shytted on a 2001 by Stanley Kubric, it was before my time.

I actually preferred Meance over Boyz. But both have their strong points and are pivotal, and unlike mob movie bullshyt, they aren't glamorizing that shyt at all. That last scene of Cain dying stuck with me for years. Same with the movie Fresh during the basketball scene.

Dead Presidents is probably in my top 10 movies. Cause and effect. No bullshyt.

I think Dead President did seem overly flawed in 95. However, its aged very well. I kinda prefer it over Menace.

I think as best as he tried Tyrin Turner just wasnt the best lead actor for that movie.

More interesting stuff happened to Cain, but Cuba was just a better lead actor as Tre in Boyz.

I just recently watched Boyz N' The Hood again, and it's absolutely nutty how it beats you over the head with the "knowledge" that it kicks. I mean, they even tell you to go to church to find a good woman.

It's like the movie is trying to deliver a message within every scene, and that's absolutely where Don't Be A Menace got their "MESSAGE!" line from.

shyt is high-key annoying...

You could tell all that was a lot of stuff that had been kicking around in John Singleton's head for years until he put it in that screenplay. In all honesty Baby Boy was preachy too but it had a lot more comedy so people don't look at it the same way.
