That's a great career advice for brehs out there. Be the best professional version of yourself. That extreme code switching with how you talk will not get you any cool points or move you up the ladder faster. I learn this about year 3 of my career. I tried to change how I talked and dressed at work. One day I stared at myself in the office restroom mirror for about 15 minutes saying to myself, bro this not you dawg. I immediately started dressing what made me feel comfortable but fly. I typically speak in a more proper southern English style. I grew my beard. There were some black coworkers that were timid to be themselves around their white counterparts. Put like this, I began to flourish. I lapped them dudes severely careerwise. I'm now 16 years deep in my field and happy.

It’s situational though breh. Some people really could use work on their speech if they want to improve their communication. I took speech classes and it definitely helped me improve my relationships in general. My issue was the pacing of how I spoke.

I have a ton of respect for this brother, black man grew up in absolute poverty in southern georgia, no indoor plumbing , yet through hardwork he was able to get into the league, become a hall of famer and now transition to being a media mogul in the business. Shannon sharpe is an excellent role model to black men

I never said not to work on yourself.

Be the best professional version of yourself. Just stay true to yourself. Don't lose your identity while working on yourself.

Y’all say this shyt and it sounds cool and all, but a lot of people DO need to lose their identity in order to improve themselves. Like I said, it’s situational.

I stopped code switching and it’s liberating. I’m in the south so I definitely have southern twang. The only thing is I change my grammar but not my voice

I still use y’all a lot :mjlol:
