In USA history most people associate the "Black Power" era as when aframs started wearing afrocentric hair styles/going natural
but most people never actually talk about exactly, what kind of hair styles aframs were sporting prior to the 1960's black power era, even going back to the slave era.
As far as hair styling went, there was always a difference in middle class/urban blacks vs rural/country blacks, in the styles they wore. The rural/country blacks always had a more natural approach while the urban/middle class folks were more prone to altered/texturized approach. Some pictures
