Maybe cutting locs means growing up to him? These things all mean different things to different people. I remember taking my 15 inch subs out my car was a 'growing up' moment...doesn't mean i was selling out..but it was one of those "childish things" we surrender as we grow up to me. It could be that to him...but not to others.

As a Nigerian, I'm not surprised. Locs are heavily associated with gang members and Rastafarians with older Africans. It was heavily frowned upon along with natural hair in the professional world until recently. I mean look at pictures of schoolchildren in Nigeria. Everyone has shaved heads even the girls. Millenial and Gen Z Africans are changing that mentality though so I'm glad that's happening.
