African American men and Flip Flops

Are African American men the only men on the planet that wouldn't be caught dead in flip flops outside?

Where does this come from?

Even though i spent my childhood in Jamaica, i wouldn't be caught dead in flip flops outside, it's like wearing a headband that says, "I'm a fakkit"..

Everyone went at Jay for wearing Chancletas..

If you've ever been to a Africa, damn near all men wear flip flops. When i went to Ghana, it was flip flop central.

You see CACs in flip flops all the time in College..

Where did this flip flop stigma with African American men come from?

If im going to the waterslide park i'll buy some flip flops but if i had time to really shop ill make sure they dont have the split toe. Not really a fan of them and they hurt my toes.

Truth. I've rarely ever seen a black dude wear flip flops, it's always nike slides and socks.

Pretty much.

Never been a flip-flops or sandals guy to be honest. There is a stigma attached to wearing them with socks....but I can't go without socks, so I just avoid them.

No clue as to whether or not it's truly a cultural thing or just anecdotal on the part of OP.
