I'm trying to finally get some audio recording done (After alot of unforeseen delays). I may be in a studio for 2 months. It would be me living there for the whole 2 months as that is how this particular rental would work out. Its not a professional fancy studio that's going to have a whole-bunch of equipment. I guess the only real benefit to the place is that its sound-proof. Its got all of the foam squares on the wall and ceiling and there are no windows in the place. I have my MacBook, an un-opened PreSonus AudioBox Studio (Complete Hardware/Software Recording Kit), and a whole bunch of rhymes/ideas already jotted down.
What pieces am I missing here to make this a reality. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks.
Here's my take, that has evolved over the years and now has me settling on a minimalist approach. If you can, figure out what it is you really wanna do, do you wanna rap, produce, engineer, some hybrid of the three? The more focused on one you can be the better IMO. So be honest with yourself breh.
I recently decided I make beats primarily. I dabbled in rapping and recording and mixing and spent $$$ acquiring DAWs, plugins, mics, room treatment, books, etc... And I'm getting rid of most of it after like 10 yrs of acquiring shyt. Now I'm more like, if I ever wanna rap I'll just go to a studio, the rates have come down a lot. In NYC you have pretty nice studios books 3 hrs for $100, and that's like mid town manhattan prime real estate.
If I ever want my shyt mastered I'll pay someone for that. I know enough to mix my beats to where I need em most the time. Basically I realized it's better to just focus on the thing you really want to do, and outsource the rest. A lot of time buying gear, reading manuals, watching tutorials just becomes an excuse to not buckle down and do your shyt. We don't need much to do our shyt, but we convince ourselves we do sometimes. Just my rant on this.
