hey was hoping someone in the coli could help me

i am trying to learn some programming languages. Was going to start with Javascript but I do not even know HTML or CSS so figured those might be a good place to start instead. This is just long overdue and want to add some skills to my resume.

I am trying to give my self the summer to learn but realize this will most likely be an ongoing process.

Anyone with any advice on what I should start with, and some good online resources to get me started I would greatly appreciate it.

to be honest, html and css are kinda unrelated to learning programming and they can be a distraction cause browser rendering of web pages is a complex thing to deal with

learn javascript, python & ruby--they're more predictable so you can actually learn in a way where what you expect is what you get. then you can tack exploring HTML/CSS onto that

If you're serious, go through the MIT 6.00SC course on OCW. While the concepts are explored using Python, the course focuses on theory and is language agnostic. Once you pick up the theory, you can learn any language in one or two weeks.

Mobile Application Development

Blackberry BB
iOS
Android

Seriously the potential is there especially with mobile application, if you learn to code mobile apps, you make A LOT of money, no guarantees, but the odds are better on mobile...I have seen people make $100K/day from apps, to $500K a years, to $10K to $15K per month...it various all separate business/individuals...also there some who have their app in itunes, but are not marketing it well...it is competitive...though now its the time...

For web related sites/application

PHP
MYSQL
ruby on rails
HTML
CSS
Java

are staples...

Desktop Application
C
C#
C++
Cobol
.NET/across

Java runs on mobile, java, desktop, etc

All learn OWASP and security coding practising...which is another big market

just start with a few classes...
