Adult undertones in "Hey Arnold"

Looking back, Hey Arnold was filled with several adult themes that completely went over the heads of many kids (including me) when it was on, and now as an adult, I'm like when I see it. For instance, in this video, check out the scenes between Arnold and Helga's teacher Mr. Simmons, his mother, and his "friend" Peter, especially from 13:02-13:13 (notice how much his mother and Peter hate each other) -

Yep, that's why she was always slurred and making "smoothies". On one episode, she was making one of her "smoothies" and asked Helga to pass the bottle of tabasco sauce (making a Bloody Mary), and I remember Arnold asking Helga if her mom got her license back (DWI/DUI) when she dropped her off at school.

Remember when Arnold helped Chocolate Boy get over his chocolate-eating habit? Dude was like a junkie going through withdrawal of heroin addiction. There are so many more adult-related themes in this cartoon that'll have you like when you notice them.
