Adrien Broner: A Great Chance I Stop John Molina

It’s been two years since Adrien Broner last had an early night, dating back to his fifth-round technical knockout of Gavin Rees in February 2013. But the former three-division titleholder and current super lightweight contender believes that can change when he faces John Molina Jr. on the undercard of the March 7 “Premier Boxing Champions” show on NBC.
“A victory is a victory, but nothing is like a knockout. I love knockouts. The fans love KOs and stoppages. I feel like with my skills and if I come in and do everything I got to do, it’s a great chance that I do stop John Molina,” Broner said on a Jan. 28 media conference call. “And this is boxing. A knockout is only one punch away.”
After beating Rees, Broner jumped from lightweight to welterweight and scored a split decision over Paulie Malignaggi, then lost a decision to Marcos Maidana. Last year he dropped down to 140, outpointing Carlos Molina (no relation to John) and Emmanuel Taylor. The John Molina bout is also at 140 and is a non-title bout.
“I definitely will be world at 140 pounds one day. But this fight it’s not going to happen,” Broner said. “My main task is getting my victory and looking good doing that.”
Broner had no trash talk for his opponent.
“I take nothing from John Molina. I know he’s rough and tough and as cool as Cheeto Puffs. But you know I’m the man, man. It’s been said once, but I’m going to say it again. I’m the can man. Anyone can get it. John Molina is the one that’s going to have to take it on March 7. It’s nothing personal. He can definitely hang with me March 8. Up until then, he’s definitely the opponent. I’m going in and getting my victory.”
