Adrien Broner Issues Apology, Says Mexican Fans Keep Boxing Alive And Well
JulioGarciaTuesday, May 13, 2014 FeaturedNo Comments

Adrien Broner has received some pretty harsh backlash from the media with his post fight comments less than two weeks ago. Did he have it coming to him? Of course he did. Growing up when myself or my friends did something stupid everyone gave us shyt even people that weren’t associated with us. It comes with the territory.

What Broner said was stupid but I don’t believe that he intended for it to be the way most people took it.

Broner has finally spoken about the subject with an online post and has issued an apology and wants boxing fans he did not mean for his comments to sound racist and that he is the furthest thing from that and Mexican fans keep boxing alive and well.

“Lately I’ve been portrayed in the news/media as racist for the comment I made after my fight. I am the furthest thing from that,” said Broner. “I love all my supporters and all people for that matter! And the last time I checked ‘Mexican’ isn’t a race, it’s a nationalality. If I said ‘Canadian’ would there of been this much of an uproar? My team is built of all races and nationalities, and I respect and appreciate them all. I sincerely apologize if my comment offended anyone but it did not come from a place of hate. The Mexican fans are the people that keep boxing alive and well. Without them there would be no AB.”

Even though he didnt need to apologize, I told yall that press release would be coming shortly. Too much money in the Mexican fanbase to not say SOMETHING:sas2:

I feel like the organization pressured him into it for the exact reason you stated, "too much money there (mexican fans)"

What I never understand with a lot of moves sports organizations make, not just boxing, people will watch REGARDLESS. You think if anyone is actually pissed and said they ain't watching, they going to watch now that AB apologized? :heh: I don't see the logic.

Not to mention it was never a racist comment to begin with.

Glad he apologized. I hear him loud and clear when he said Mexican is representative of a nationality as opposed to a race. However, this is America, America in 2014 at that where race and nationality is still very much an issue and divisive at that. Regardless of what he meant, too many people will view what he said in the pejorative sense of the words he chose to use. In So Cal, when someone says, "the fukkin Mexicans", they're not necessarily excluding someone of Mexican descent who has never been south of the border and can't speak a lick of Spanish. A Mexican-American, is a fukkin Mexican to them. That said, it's understandable why some might have caught feelings over his words.

On another note, between this, and the azz whoopin he caught from Maidana from jumping weight too soon, between these two events I hope he's learning something. I really want to like him, but he's been doing too much. Man I wish this dude would mature some or get some better handlers. I really dont think Maidana exposed him as mediocre as much as he bit more than he could chew. He's already achieved greatness in winning a belt in three different weight classes. Still he has the potential to be legendary if he plays his cards right.

By the way, does anybody else get the strange feeling that a focused and active Broner just might get the best of Pac? A few years ago, I'd say that's crazy talk, but in 2014, there's a side of me thinking Broner just might be capable of extending what Bradley was doing in the second fight an additional 6-7 rounds.

let the young man live. didn't nobody give a damn about what he said except the WBC. Boxing is entertainment, many people were entertained but you can't please everybody.

I hear you breh, all too well, but at the same time I'm waiting on the day some young Mexican fighter says after the fight, "I just beat the sh!t out of a pinche mayate!" I kinda hope it happens just to see what happens and if hypocrisy doesn't arise as a result.
