His sons also supported the Confederacy and tried to enlist, but were refused because of their race.[13][14] They donated money, and bought Confederate bonds; with defeat, these bonds became worthless and they lost their investments, becoming destitute by the end of the war like many formerly successful whites.

Tippu Tip was an Arab though and not African. He looked black. But both sides of his family came from Arabia. Contrary to popular opinion there are black arabs.
Black people have always owned and sold slaves across the entire planet. It was simply a part of human history. And most of the slaves were white contrary to the white supremacist rewriting of history. The word "SLAVE" comes from the word "SLAV" after the Slavic peoples of Eastern Europe who were the preferred slaves of the black Moors.
