in-season tourney happening sooner rather than later... probably a December event
If the in-season tournament is just normal regular season games that are designated as 'qualifying' games during the first half of the season, its an interesting idea. You then have the top 16 record/point teams advance to the tournament, but then you have so many questions in regards to scheduling in a way that makes sense.
When does the tournament take place? (expand the all-star break period to incorporate tournament games before all-star weekend)
What are the non-tournament teams doing while tournament teams are playing? (are they getting longer breaks and somewhat benefitting because of that)
How do you schedule games and ensure that there's balanced schedule for every team the entire year? (I think last season because of COVID the league held off on announcing 2nd half of the season scheduling so maybe it does that).
Maybe there's someone in the league office that can make it work, but then the incentive for winning will have to be significant enough for players (not necessarily the organization like lottery balls in the draft lottery).
