Former junior welterweight champion Ruslan Provodnikov (23-3, 16KOs) is now being targeted by another dangerous puncher, Luis Carlos Abregu (36-1, 29KOs), who faces unbeaten Olympian Sadam Ali (20-0, 12KOs) on November 8th at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.
In a recent article on BoxingScene.com, Provodnikov complained that he was turned down by several Top Rank promoted fighters.
Provodnikov's promoter Artie Pelullo, CEO of Banner Promotions, claimed Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum was refusing to offer up Tim Bradley, Diego Chaves, Jessie Vargas and Brandon Rios. Provodnikov returns on November 28th in Moscow, Russia.
"I have spoken to Top Rank directly, and [Arum] has categorically told myself and HBO - that Tim Bradley, Brandon Rios, Vargas and Chaves are off the table for Ruslan Provodnikov," Pelullo told BoxingScene.com.
Abregu is ready to face Provodnikov in the first quarter of 2015.
"I have a fight on November 8 on HBO against Sadam Ali. When I knock him out I am happy to give you a big fight right here. I am the most feared welterweight in the world. I was turned down by Brandion Rios, Mike Alvarado and by Tim Bradley for a rematch - [and] you were turned down by them. So it makes sense for me and you to fight. Two warriors that are both avoided by the best welterweights in the world. Let's give the fans what they want. Argentineans are the most exciting fighters in the world. We come to fight, not to run. Our styles are made for a 'Fight of The Year' candidate," Abregu said in a statement to BoxingScene.com.
