About to buy a drone but have never flown one...should I try before I buy?

I already understand the laws etc. The question is whether I should learn on my own with the drone I buy or should I test waters by renting/buying a cheap knockoff. Just not sure about the learning curve. I am leaning towards the Mini2.

They are very easy to fly. Which drone are you considering

Was going back and forth between mini2 and the air2 especially bc of the better camera on the latter (48 vs 12mp) and collision avoidance. At the same time I wanted something relatively small bc I hope to use it for roof/gutter inspections and was worried about maneuvering through right spaces (trees).
