Except these houses aren't a 15 minute train ride to the financial mecca of the world.

Few people are buying these houses because they have thousands if not hundreds of thousands in back taxes.
Not to mention some of these houses are practically empty frames to the point where everything has been stripped down and is on the brink of collapsing. You'd probably have to spend 15-30k to make them liveable again.
Add to that stories of houses getting stripped when the construction crews are away from a house being rebuilt.
