Racism row: Bahar Mustafa is accused of banning white people from events
A university equality officer who sparked outrage when she allegedly tweeted #killallwhitemen has been charged with sending a racially motivated malicious communication.
Bahar Mustafa, 28, student union welfare and diversity officer at Goldsmiths University in London, was caught in the centre of a racism and sexism row after she told white people and all men "not to come" to an event.
Mustafa, of Edmonton, north London, used the hashtag #killallwhitemen on Twitter.
Scotland Yard confirmed today that Mustafa , of Edmonton North London, has been summonsed to appear before magistrates next month on two charges.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "A woman interviewed under caution regarding a complaint of racially motivated malicious communication made on a social media network has been summonsed to court.
Appearance: Bromley Magistrates' Court
"Bahar Mustafa, 28, of Edmonton, has been summonsed to appear at Bromley Magistrates' Court on November 5 to answer the charges of sending a letter, communication or article conveying a threatening message between November 10, 2014, and May 31, 2015, and sending by public communication network an offensive, indecent, obscene, menacing message or matter between November 10, 2014, and May 31 this year."
She graduated from Goldsmiths earlier this year with an MA in gender and media studies.
She defended herself in an online video, describing the criticism she faced as an "outrageous distortion of fact".
Ms Mustafa claimed that she could not be guilty of sexism or racism against white men "because racism and sexism describe structures of privilege based on race and gender and therefore women of colour and minority genders cannot be racist or sexist, since we do not stand to benefit from such a system."
