New York from like 73-97 was

Most of Manhattan is basically Disney World now. The lower east side used to be scary as fukk and most of lower Manhattan outside of the financial district was wolf country. Go there now and it’s clean.

Then Brooklyn and the Bronx. My mom coming from Nigeria used to be more hyper vigilant in New York than even Lagos. Same with DC.

Making a city safer is always positive. If you watched that documentary, the police weren’t bothering to help so people did it themselves. That’s how the Guardian Angels was founded. Places don’t become insane without government neglect.

The problem with gentrification is that private business pushed out people and the government stepped in to help new residents with more money.
