I remember the day, more than 10 years ago now, when I saw 88 Minutes. I remember the week before that, when walking downtown San Diego, I saw a poster outside the already fading Gaslamp theater, for 88 Minutes. I looked closer. Al Pacino? A hunt for a serial killer? Why hadn't I heard of this before?
No matter, it was coming out this week. So, after work, the one thing I looked forward to at 23, was going to the movies Friday night. I came home, saw that 88 Minutes may have broken a record for lowest RT score in the history of the site. I began reading, and decided I was going down with the ship, and there's no way it could have been that bad.
A few minutes in, I knew I was wrong. One of the most laugh out loud, offensively bad, needlessly tasteless movies I have ever seen. It remains the worst movie I ever saw in theaters. Next to Blues Brothers 2000.
There is a scene where Pacino explains to an FBI agent that the killer must have hired a woman to sleep with him, than murdered her, extracted his semen from her, and injected it into his student, who was also murdered.....
The FBI agent says, "Do you have any idea how absurd that sounds"? To which Pacino replies, with all the dignity he can muster, "Its....not absurd"
I just laughed for about 5 min, rewinding that clip a few times. It's the 1:20 mark.
