How much would you have win in a set for life lottery game that pays you some amount every year (before taxes) that would get you to "retire"?

And by "retire" I mean leave your day job...whether that be to just chill and travel all the rest of your days or to start your own venture in something you're passionate about. If you're already self-employed, then I mean to walk away from that business (even if you retain ownership)

I could survive with $20,000 but if I'm choosing to have a fun rest of my life $500,000 a year I can do basically everything I want to do

The question is, which are you choosing?

Assuming you're working now, if you hit for $200k, you'd really continue to go to work?

Would you be willing to take a pay cut and make the subsequent lifestyle adjustment for the privilege of not having to work everyday?

Is that more or less than what you make now?

For me it would have to be more than what I make, cuz with all that free time, traveling and such, I'm sure my leisurely self would spend more than I do now.

it's significantly more. i'm happy but not satisfied now. if i started making 80k a year of a lottery, i'd just travel like like a bum and let it stack. invest and save most of it so that further down the road, if i decide to start a family, we'll be set.

absolutely not. because if your not at work alot of times you end up spending more money.

it would take about 110k for me to be comfortable as long as im wife and kidless. prob 200k with both

Give me 50k a year and I'm good. :yeshrug:

I'm not particularly big on travel or luxury items. If I had 50k/yr coming in for life, I'd definitely quit the day job and sleep in everyday. It's enough for rent, food, and video games, so I'm set. No much else I want.

We're right around the same budget...I was thinking somewhere around 125-150k. Def would have to be more than I make now.

But I think that's cuz I don't have a business venture I'm passionate about. If someone was passionate about bicycles, I suspect they'd take a 20% pay cut to open and run a bike shop.

Absolutely, i think thats the one part that is missing in this thread. i dont think alot of people realize how much they would go crazy without developing some hobbies or something they are passionate about while they are not at work.

in my case it would be Cars Gym and Golfing.
