All of them would believe in their collective minds: "this is the society I have grown up in, and have lived accustomed to, and this is also legal and justfiable by law, therefore it is at the least justiifed and morally righteous or null and void of any immorality".
Take the most progressive, liberal, annoyingly paternal cacs you can think of and put them back in the old days and they'd be the same way.
Just something to think about #inherently. And the for next time you interact with a cac.
The question and subjectivity of a societal and changing morale seems to only be an enlightening discovery for the American European only when it is passed into legislation.

Because clearly they were okay with it the past couple hundreds of years.
It is strange how the abolition of slavery and the acquirement of civil rights is presented in history to us as this profound display of cacs recognizing humanity ; a morality that cacs weren't apparently capable of holding beforehand.
