practical effects>>>>>>>cgi. Even good cgi is not as believable as practical effects. Terminator 2 is still shytting on damn near every action movie that has been released since. Modern action movies age like milk. The Matrix trilogy looks ridiculous in 2021. I was watching Terminator Dark fate and the CGI was atrocious straight pulled me out of the movie.

North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
Jason Bourne
Mission Impossible
Hell, Tom Cruise action and/or sci fi movies
World War Z
MCU movies

Those are all great.

Just say, the 80's nostalgia hits harder than today.

The 80's were :wow: by the way. Technology has slanted those views. Life was simpler, the crack area created hood millionaires, and if you had ambition and an idea you could make shyt happen.

Yep. Say it all the time cgi makes movies unwatchable 5-10 years after they come out. They just don't hold up well compared to the real deal. Movies from 2010 look like old windows 98 graphics and in 2030 movies from 2020 gon look like windows 98 in comparison.

John Wick 1-3 and the Raid movies are :wow:, but other than that, the genre is on life support.

Terminator 1 and 2 >
Die Hard >
Any Jackie Chan movie >

Modern action movies are WAY too reliant on CGI.
This is why I still maintain that the Obi-Wan/Anankin fight in Revenge of the Sith is by FAR the most overrated fight in the franchise by miles. That mess looked like a PS2 videogame cutscene :martin:
(Revenge of the Sith is still a better overall movie than the Disney Star Wars Trilogy.)

What was your favorite lightsaber duel?

For me, the Bespin duel was the greatest of all time...

The RotJ fight gets an honorable mention, mainly off of the strength of Vader's redemption:

IMO this was the best fight in the prequel trilogy. The main thing that REALLY held it back was the lack of emotional investment since we knew next to nothing about Darth Maul's backstory or motivations at this point. (Revenge of the Sith was a lot better when it came to the emotional investment with Anakin and Obi-wan, but IMO the excessive CG and terrible dialogue ruined it.)

Clone Wars has some dope duels too, but I haven't decided on a clear favorite from that series yet.
All of those Disney fights are trash, so I'm not even going to mention those.

If we're ranking by lightsaber duels, I would say that...

Empire Strikes Back > Return of the Jedi > Phantom Menace > Revenge of the Sith > A New Hope* > Attack of the Clones > Force Awakens** > hot dog mess on the sidewalk >>>>>> Rise of Skywalker and the Last Jedi

* A New Hope's duel is a dope story moment, but the actual action and fight choreography look pretty :flabbynsick: today.
** TFA's duel would have been alright if Rey hadn't beaten Kylo in the end with ZERO training or experience.

Idk I found the fight inside smokes throne room quite good.

But I gotta agree with the episode 1 fight being the best out of the prequels. Darth Maul had such a commanding presence down to the way he fought and how it told it's own story with how he strategized a way to take down 2 opponents by separating them and somehow gaining the advantage in the end. Good on them for not keeping him dead.

Bespin was the best duel? I like how it showed how Luke had heart but that was just vader trying to find out how good Luke really was and ultimately break him so he can take him before the emperor. Luke surprised vader but in the end he was just toying with him the whole time.

It's not even just practical effects, CGI car chases and action scenes are mostly trash and they take you out of the movie because their's no sense of danger.

CGI can never beat these type of scenes.
