KINGSTON, Jamaica – The International Monetary Fund says it has reached a staff-level agreement with Jamaican officials to authorize a $750 million deal for the debt-laden island.
The deal aims to strengthen Jamaica's public finances through several measures, including a comprehensive tax reform.
The IMF said in a statement Friday that board members are expected to review the deal by end of March.
Jamaica's ruling party has said an IMF deal would help boost investor confidence and release hundreds of millions of dollars from international groups. But the main opposition party called on the government to debate the letter of intent and publicize it.
Jamaica's debt is more than 140 percent of gross domestic product, one of the highest debt-to-GDP ratios in the world.

For those who were asking in the dominican thread about why haiti/ other latin american countries are the way they are now, this is one of the reason.

Who doesn't know this?

What I find wild is, you understand why the islands are like that, yet you can't understand how black americans had to go through the same shyt only worse because we actually was in the belly of the beast, not just feeling it's wrath. You stated islanders can't understand why we haven't prospered while living here for over a hundred years, like it was just peaches & cream. It has only been over 45 years that we actually have an even playing field, and that has been only in the job market, and we still did our thing before that. How you don't see this, is crazy to me considering you're on the internet, and can find this out easily. I see if you were poor, and just came to the U.S.A., but that isn't the case

Before you turn this into something else like you did in that thread, I still think it's fukked up what the islands have gone through. I'm just shocked all the shyt you stated came from you!. You were always talking about the going to the tunnel, riding around blasting hip hop, and just straight up enjoying that part of black american culture, only to turn around and shyt on the same people you liked!. Whether you want to accept it or not, those people are black american culture.

I guess that's life, you should never be shocked by people. Thanks for the link anyway.

Sounds like a complete set up to me. Can people be this stupid twice or was some arm twisting going on.

What will happen when that beautiful island is carved up and owned by foreigners and multi-national corporations and the people can't even find a mango tree that isn't owned by someone else?

:mjpls: u know damn well it is!!!

IMF been had thier neck on Jamaica for years...

DEAL my a$$....it's like your creditor that you've owed money to for years on a maxed out card...offering you a credit limit increase with a higher hidden APR....

in fact this "DEAL" is very similiar to the plan they had for Haiti last year...which they offered out of "sympathy" since the Haiti earthquake crisis....

they basically said the DEBT for haiti was now CLEARED off the record...

and will be replaced with a new CREDIT LINE.... :russ:

dat sh1t cray...
