these skinny jean wearing bourgeois Tehranis that the west loves to fawn over are not an accurate representation of the Iranian people. :camby:

How so? I work with 3 Iranians and they showed me this video. I'm sure they would feel different about your assertions.

What is an accurate representation of the Iranian people?

this oft-repeated notion in the west that Iranians are some American culture obsessed, "ultra-liberal" Muslims that are being stifled by these archaic fundamentalists in power only applies to a certain segment of the population (mostly in Tehran).

these people are largely disconnected from the rest of the country. this is why their "Green Movement" never gained any real steam, the average Iranian saw the anti-Palestinian banners and bourgeoisie grievances that had no real impact on their lives and gave them the bushes treatment.

this often repeated notion in the west that Iranians are some American culture obsessed, Ashton Kutcher emulating "ultra-liberal" Muslims that are being stifled by these archaic fundamentalists only applies to a certain segment of the population (mostly in Tehran).

Aren't urban centers largely disconnected from rural and less populated areas within any country? I don't understand your beef with this. It was made by an Iranian, in Iran, with Iranians and other Iranians enjoy it. I thought they mostly gave answers that anyone can relate to regardless of location. Your argument seems the equivalent of saying that Miami doesn't represent Midwest United States and that a video involving Miamians is not valid. I know that Occupy Movement didn't resonate with rural conservative Americans, but does it make some of its complaints automatically invalid?

Seems weird your angst towards a relatively benign video.

this urban center is a different kettle of fish, breh. have you ever heard a segment of any other Muslim country holding regular rallies against the Palestinian people in Gaza, perhaps the most oppressed people on the planet?

No, I understand your original point. Urban centers vastly differ from other parts of the country. This is the case in most countries. That being said, minority of people protesting is not reflective of the entire population, even in the Urban center. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the Iranian youth are upset about their government's foreign policy as it relates to Palestine. Maybe they think that Iranians are more important than Palestinians/Lebanese and the government's focus should be on internal matters? This type of sentiment is not unique. Maybe those protesters are some that feel oppressed themselves? I understand your point but I don't see how it relates to the video I posted my friend. As far as we know, despite how those people dress or talk, they may very well be very supportive of the Palestinian people.

but Iran isn't marching towards Jersuelem, friend. they provide basic, life saving services to the wretched of the earth. http://www.presstv.com/detail/2013/08/08/317835/iran-aid-distributed-among-gaza-families/

to actually protest against the food being given to starving Palestinians and not once be repudiated by the class of people you represent is a pretty unique phenomenon in the Ummah. I couldn't imagine this happening in any other Muslim country.
