Quick little history on 3dfx:

- Were one of the pc gpu card big names in the 90s, most notably with their “voodoo” like graphics cards

- Had a lot of their company bought out by nvidia I believe

- Were originally designated to create the graphics card for the dreamcast and had full support of Sega of America and EA….that is until Sega of Japan pulled rank on Sega of America and went with the Japanese created PowerVR gpu (which turned out to be better). This pissed off EA and is the reason EA cut ties with Sega and didn’t release any NBA live or Madden games on Dreamcast and the reason 2k sports rose to fame

A lot of people online thinking this is just a quick cash grab to monetize the heavy nostalgia flow going on right now….but them becoming a new player in the GPU market to battle Nvidia, AMD and now intel supposedly is possible

This is going to be interesting but I always thought they were fully acquired and gutted by Nvidia so we'd never see them again.

We definitely need more competition in the GPU space to keep the price points from getting even crazier.

Doesn't Nvidia own 3Dfx? (patents, talent, etc...)

Is this just a third-party just buying the name and making cards on their own?

I can see where both sides came from….Sega of Japan definitely bogus as hell for doing that behind the back shyt….on the other hand they had something better than what 3dfx offered and they knew it

The American developers were salty they couldn’t use what they were comfortable with even if that familiar environment was the weaker one

nah don't get it twisted that Hitachi chip was on another level. That's what keeps dreamcast games for aging well.

Geforce is pretty much Voodoo, most or the 3dfx team migrated to Nvidia back in the day.
