William Zepeda and Tevin Farmer will look to settle their unfinished business on March 29 when they meet in a rematch in Cancun, Mexico.

The all-southpaw fight, which was announced Thursday by Zepeda’s promoter Golden Boy Promotions, will be contested for the WBC interim lightweight title, which Zepeda won in their last bout in November by split decision.

Zepeda, 32-0 (27 KOs), of San Mateo Atenco, Mexico rose off the canvas in round four to win a split decision in the fight, which was only scheduled for 10 rounds despite having an interim title at stake. The margin of victory was just one point on two cards, 95-94, while the third had it for the same score for Farmer, 33-7-1 (8 KOs), of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

A text message to WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman clarifying whether the fight will be scheduled for 10 or 12 rounds, as well as whether this rematch was ordered by the WBC or a voluntary one, was not responded to by the time of this story’s publication.

The winner would logically be the next in line to face the winner between WBC lightweight titleholder Shakur Stevenson and Floyd Schofield on February 22.

William Zepeda is set to rematch Tevin Farmer after the two made weight for their 12-round lightweight main event, which headlines a Golden Boy Promotions card tomorrow night at Poliforum Benito Juarez in Cancun, Mexico. The fight is a rematch of their bout in November, which Zepeda won via split decision.

Zepeda tipped the scales at 134.2lbs, while Farmer, the former junior lightweight titleholder, came in at lightweight of 135lbs.

Zepeda, 32-0 (27 KOs), currently holds the WBC interim belt, which should lead to a consolidation of titles with WBC titleholder Shakur Stevenson if he is successful against Farmer. Zepeda, a 28-year-old from San Mateo Atenco, Mexico, received cheers upon making weight.

Farmer, 33-7-1 (8 KOs), dropped Zepeda in their previous bout. The 34-year-old from Philadelphia shattered the aura of invincibility around Zepeda. Zepeda had been dropped in 2022 by Luis Angel Viedas, but that outlier performance had been forgotten after dominant wins over Joseph Diaz Jnr, Mercito Gesta, Maxi Hughes, and Giovanni Cabrera. Of those mentioned, only Diaz was able to go the distance with Zepeda.

In the co-feature, unified strawweight titleholder Oscar Collazo came in at 105lbs, while Edwin Cano came in 104.4lbs.

Collazo stopped long-reigning WBA titleholder Thammanoon Niyomtrong, better known as “Knockout CP Freshmart” in November. The win established Collazo, a 28-year-old who resides in Villalba, Puerto Rico, as the best in the division. Collazo’s record of 11-0 (8 KOs) speaks to his unique talents, as it is rare to see a power puncher at the highest level in his weight class. Cano, 13-2-1 (4 KOs), is undefeated in his last four fights with three wins and one draw. Cano, a 27-year-old Mexican, has fought in heavier weight classes, such as flyweight and junior flyweight.

A battle of former belt holders saw the most drama at the scales as Yokasta Valle successfully made weight for her debut at flyweight. Valle, 32-3 (10 KOs), is a two-division titleholder and on a two-fight winning streak since losing to Seniesa Estrada last year. Valle, a 32-year-old from San Jose, Costa Rica, now trains in Mexico with her new trainer, Jay Najar. She came in at 110.6lbs.

Esparza, 15-2 (1 KO), a 2012 US Olympian, and a former champion came in at 113.4lbs. BoxingScene reached out to a representative from Golden Boy Promotions, who clarified Esparza was over the limit. No further details were given. Esparza enters the fight coming off a win over Arely Mucino in December. Esparza has now come in overweight three fights in a row. Esparza, a 35-year-old from Houston, lost her unified flyweight titles to Gabriela Alaniz, but rebounded with a win in December.

The card will be telecast on DAZN.

mixed feelings about this fight. I want Tevin to win and I want him to get his shot at the title but I rather see Shakur vs Zepeda because stylistically it will be a better fight and I want Shakur to shut Zepeda glazers up.
