Not because it's something you pay for every time you get a paycheck. Why wouldn't you file for unemployment?
I dont disagree one bit. Personally I believe thats an illegal and authoritarian tax as are most taxes. You should be allowed to keep that money laws should be enforced to ensure than any company that has to rely on the big bad socialist government should have to split revenue in a fashion that post majority of the wages to the majority of the employees.
Employment should be a way of the system cycling money and keeping the wheels churning.

while most people do need it, not everyone who files for unemployment does it because they have nothing saved. I’ve always been taught to file for unemployment whether you need it or not, you paid into it. Furthermore, for some, it might be just enough to not have them fully erode savings while looking for another gig.
But hopefully this is a V recession like they say, because no way the economy/people can wait until there’s a vaccine

The fact is that even at current levels of automation we have way more jobs than there is work to do. And I don't just mean for factory line workers I mean for middle managers and business developers and lawyers.
If it's not a industry that naturally mandates an upper limit on how many people can be serviced by a single person (healthcare, education, etc) then the chances are our broken capitalist system has bloated it with three people doing the work of one.
