The 2016 DNC was in Pennsylvania (Philly), and Hillary lost PA to Trump. 2012 DNC was in North Carolina (Charlotte), and Obama lost NC to Romney. 1988 DNC was in Georgia (Atlanta), and Dukakis lost GA to Bush 41.


Republicans haven't fared any better:

1996 RNC held in California (San Diego). Bob Dole lost California to Bill Clinton.
2000 RNC held in Pennsylvania (Philadelphia). Bush 43 lost PA to Al Gore.
2004 RNC held in New York State (NYC). Bush 43 lost NYS to Kerry.
