The man accused of hiding in the bushes with an AK-47 and trying to assassinate former President Donald Trump at his South Florida golf club is a former roofer whose criminal history includes barricading himself with a weapon at the company’s facility in North Carolina more than two decades ago.

Law enforcement sources told the Miami Herald on Sunday evening that the man in custody is 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh. Around 1 p.m., deputies and agents found an AK-47 with a scope as well as two backpacks and a GoPro in bushes just outside Trump International Golf Club West Palm Beach.

The shooting comes months after Trump was grazed by a bullet in an assassination attempt at a rally in Pennsylvania. Routh, sources say, is facing federal charges after he was detained along Interstate 95.

What we know about the alleged attempted assassin:

Ryan Routh isn’t from Florida

It doesn’t appear that Routh has ties to Florida.

According to public records, Routh is originally from North Carolina. He attended North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University where, according to his LinkedIn, he studied mechanical engineering.

Since 2018, Routh has lived in Hawaii. On the island, he opened Camp Box Honolulu, in which he used his construction experience to “build simple economical structures to help address the highest homelessness rate in the United States due to unparalleled gentrification,” according to his LinkedIn profile.

He’s an unaffiliated voter

Routh remains listed an active unaffiliated voter in North Carolina, according The News & Observer, a McClatchy publication in North Carolina.

As unaffiliated voters can choose which primary they want to vote in the state, Routh voted in the Democratic primary when he cast a ballot this spring.

Was he a Trump supporter?

Routh, according to the New York Post and archives of his X account, said he voted for Trump in 2016.

“I and the world hoped that president Trump would be different and better than the candidate, but we all were greatly disappointment and it seems you are getting worse and devolving; are you retarded; I will be glad when you gone,” Routh posted.

Previous run-ins with the law

In 2010, Routh was sentenced to prison time on three counts of felony possession of stolen goods and probation for one misdemeanor count of the same crime, according to the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction website.

A Dec. 16, 2002 story in The News & Record, a newspaper in Greensboro, North Carolina, reported that Routh was arrested after drivingfrom a 10 p.m. traffic stop and barricading himself with a fully automatic machine gun inside United Roofing, where public records say Routh worked. He would be arrested three hours later.

Misdemeanor charges of carrying a concealed weapon, driving with a revoked driver’s license and resisting an officer were combined during his sentencing with other charges levied against him from 2001 and 2002: five other counts of driving with a revoked license; two other counts of carrying a concealed weapon; misdemeanor hit and run; and other “miscellaneous motor vehicle violations.”

Did he volunteer to fight in Ukraine war?

In 2023, Routh told the New York Timeshe spent several months in Ukraine amid the war with Russia. He also said he had tried recruiting Afghan soldiers who opposed the Taliban to fight in Ukraine.

I still don’t understand how any self respecting black person still vote for Trump

two things about black trump supporters that stand out to me they're either really ignorant(conspiracy theorists, low-information voters, poorly educated, mentally-ill) or of poor character(criminals seeking favor, grifters, tax cheats, contrarians/attention seekers).

by and large they all fall into the above camp.

Update: Nicky Jam deletes post supporting Trump, disables comments on last post, after Maná removes their collab in wake of endorsement. Even I’m surprised how hard they’re going at him in comments section of his second to last post

Screenshot of what his post looked like before deletion. He made light in Spanish of Trump mistaking him for a woman musician and calling him hot. Criticism has poured on from fans and Latinos who thought he was above a Trump endorsement.

The “I will be deleting the one song I had of you” absolutely killed it

LMAO. The Spanish ones are epic!

Trump supporters are oblivious to the fact that the rest of humanity despises that abhorrent POS. They live in an echo chamber that reinforces their delusions that trump is a good Christian man who loves our country. Because of this, they think everyone loves him.

@TeahCartel
I detest Trump but shouldn't people be allowed to endorse who they want?

7/11
@NaughtyAgatha45
About that. I’ve been puzzled about why Donald thought Nicky Jam is a woman.

Well, he does know someone else with an identical sounding name: Nikki Haley.

Did Donald combine Nicky Jam with Nikki Haley and decide that this person walking onto the stage must be a woman? A HOT woman?

That's just...beautiful.

@kdnerak33
Haitian migrants began arriving in Springfield in 2018 when Trump was President.

2/11
@mortenbc58
And nobody "dropped" them. They simply moved there with the opportunity of jobs and housing

3/11
@kdnerak33
Exactly, and by many accounts, they revitalized a declining city.

4/11
@theangriestbuni
I seriously am beginning to think he’s trying to lose the election.

5/11
@kdnerak33
Operation Keep Him Talking is going swimmingly.

6/11
@thedesertginger
According to the census, there are only about 5000 Haitians in all of Ohio.

7/11
@kdnerak33
They exaggerate the numbers and create the rumors because they’re racist. Plain and simple.

8/11
@BlueWav_24
Of course, and don't forget...

9/11
@CrazyFenaker
And crime, property and violent crime, in Springfield was actually worse in the early 2010s than after the Haitians arrived. Blaming them for a high crime rate in a dying rustbelt city is insanely misleading.

10/11
@imamandajo
Yeah, when they started that bullshyt I noticed several articles say they settled here about 5 years ago and then I noticed no MAGA apparently did the math on that lol.

11/11
@ColoradoCD4
There are also only 5K of them in all of Ohio, a house of cards:

[Quoted tweet]
Far-right movements have been using Springfield, Ohio as a propaganda tool since early 2023.

There aren’t 20,000 Haitian immigrants there
in fact, there are barely 5,000 in the entire state.

The level of cognitive dissonance required for this narrative is staggering.

This is nearly every Trump voter whether it's cacs or Latinos etc. The only other "type" of Trump supporter are the wealthy looking to profit off Trump and seize more power.
