The republican freakout over Taylor Swift is hilarious in the context of the RNC, where multiple d-list celebs were trotted out to endorse Trump. All conservatives do is cry about not being at the cool table. They then created their own table, which they think is cool but in reality it's just filled with washed or debt ridden celebs that are kinda embarrassing. They know this but have to pretend otherwise.

This.

All the conservative/libertarian/racist cats go to where everyone else is.

They've tried to get platforms where it's only them and it keeps failing: parler, their dating app, etc. They're not interesting enough for people like that.

They follow everyone else around, not the other way around. They can't leave people alone.

Time to leave twitter and leave Elon holding that bag. I'm not going on that site anymore and will wait for the next big sm outlet to emerge.

Far Right social media applications like Truth social, Parler and Gab were/are flops because they only attract the ones already deeply committed to far right ideologies, a loud, active, proud but ultimately niche crowd. They have More bark than bite, more big mouths than big brains. They are only preaching to the converted. They use demagoguery, fake news, memes and propaganda to spread their ideologies ( with ridiculous generalizations, cherry-picking certain news that fit their sinister agendas, using selective memory/outrages, blaming other races for the acts of a few, completely judging other ethnic groups by gtheir worst, outdated and fabricated media stereotypes, half truths, spiteful and inflammatory rhetoric, cowardly trolling, and nonsensical hot takes) they are emotional, biased, stupid, ignorant, intellectually and factually dishonest , poorly educated, semi-literate, easily influenced, lacking compassion, empathy and selfish, they aren’t rational, intelligent, wise, unbiased, logical, levelheaded, empathetic and compassionate. They have no customer base outside the fringe and niche racist/conservative lunatics, no one else goes there. Groundhog Day status. That’s why Elon bought Twitter because it is already a much bigger platform with a much bigger userbase, his goal is to slowly convert by attrition the masses to his extreme right causes.

Nothing or close to it.

Most people get their stuff from other places on the internet and post it here. Not the other way around. People who post here lurk those "kiddie" tables and bring the slang/news back here to look hip to a bunch of people their age.

At one point, maybe this site was the place to be like around when The Breakfast Club was basically in it's prime.

But ever since reddit really blew up that's no longer the case. Now it provides nostalgia,

If you think there are a lot of industry lurkers here, what do you think a hip-hop subreddit that is about 3.8 million users (and many young, closer to the scene) would have? Think about that term: "social influence". If it's your job or main interest to find content, why go to a site with a few thousand old people compared to a "bustling" subreddit with millions of 15-20 y/o's that everyone knows about? You're trying to "plant seeds" why plant them here?

I mean most people here know absolutely nothing about what's happening on Tiktok. fukking Tiktok, maybe the most popular app in the world. If I'm interested in the bleeding edge or breaking news why would I find it here? Those same subreddits always got special guests and those guests have been known to make references to what they've read on those sites. Janelle Monae is actually a moderator on one of the subreddits. What thecolidotcom got on that? Can you imagine some young, new famous rapper talking with another young, new famous rapper about what somebody on here said?! Nope!

Don't fall for the survivorship bias and echo chambers. The coli is too small compared to the entire social media/internet space and real life.

So why are we here?

It's a great site for older people to chill, make references we'd understand and say what's on our minds knowing we have some folks who'd understand where we're coming from. You can vent here and know most people "get you" but you do the same somewhere else you may get hit some of those "wELl aKsHuaLlY" replies. That's one of the benefits about being selective of those you let it whereas a subreddit got less filter. Every now and then we do get a nice update on the outside world as well - from someone with a similar perspective as the posters here. It ain't as extreme and full throttle as social media either where the takes are wild ignorant af (many times because it's a troll). It's just enough to keep those here engaged.

That said, being aware of survivorship bias also means not to take everything you read here (and on social media) as a reflection on the outside world. Be careful because even social media posts/sites will have you believing things like Extremists are taking over and the world is going to shyt, but remember - a lot of cynical people make posts on Twitter. So when you go on sites like that, be aware of who you're getting your content stream from - some batshyt insane people.

Your average person who is content with their life won't be posting much about politics on Twitter, thecoli, etc. so you're not going to read many posts from that perspective (a realistic perspective). There are a lot of "normal" balanced people who stay clear of social media. Think of your many level-headed, responsible co-workers. Outside of edge cases, do you think they're the brash parts of the internet like that? Chances are no, and well, that actually applies to the many people out there who aren't depressed and cynical. Twitter is 300 million people (many cloned accounts), while the world is 8 billion people. Remember that.

Serious warning: don't make this site (or any site for that matter) the center of your universe or source of truth to live your life by.

All what Ive been able to take from this last 36 hours is the biggest winner of all this shyt, at the expense of everyone including those that support him, is Elon Must.

Through the brand rot, through the riots that are sure to come, through the eventual drumpf election loss and 'martyrdom', through the thousands of advertisers, brand ambassadors, and marketing people whose opportunities will surely dry up, Must will be on top of the world, and only a select few data and surveillance capitalists, right-wing media types and political players like Shapiro, Tim Pool, and the rest of the losers, will continue to eat at the expense of our national security.

There is no light at the end of the tunnel; Mr Must–whether himself or by proxy–will be looking forward to 2028. Twitter itself may be in conservatorship or whatever the fukk, but the seeds to his empire are already planted even after this tirefire of a platform of his burns out.

Once the insanity commences, Trump may or may not serve his prison sentence, but that power vacuum that will exist once he's out the paint will only turn to something worse. The old GOP aint ever gonna get their patry back.

I'm terrified of this boer. He's a glitch in the system and the fact that people can't abstain from that platform despite all of this tells like everything I need to know about the next couple decades of American life.
