There was two times where republicans threw the elections to win later on 1964 (the election after Kennedy got killed in 1963) and 1974 (Ford was president but a lame duck because he pardoned Nixon but was also unelected for President and VP. Ronald Regan challenged him in the primaries Which was unheard of and basically from there had control of the party then won in 1980 then 1984. People argue that Bush’s term was really Reagan’s third term and that W’s first term was Reagan’s fourth)
If Gavin wants to president it’s going to be in the 2030’s that’s why he specifically isn’t too close because in politics you always gotta be your own or else you are weak. Of the 15 VPs to later become President 8 of them became President because their boss died.
Nixon and Biden are the only two who didn’t win the next election and became president later.
Nixion barely lost to Kennedy while being VP and waited until 1968. The change in this country from 1963 to 1968 had so much from public assassinations, literal riots,protests, the Vietnam war, drugs, the civil rights movement,inflation, weird stuff from other countries like the government killing other countries leaders, the Cold War was still hot, and that’s barely touching the surface.

RFK was running for president and just won the California primary was led into a room and got shot died the next day but they knew he was dying and was catholic so they passed him a rosary and prayed.
The 1968 DNC was also in Chicago like this year and there was a riot.
