if they were radical, they wouldnt be expressing it through voting. they would be out doing shyt. most are the opposite of radical - they are seeking their 'bread and circuses' and are at least getting the circus from trump or online nihilism.
it starts with a terrible youth economy and cost of living in the midst of a lack of culture and community. they cant get a better job but they can get culture and community online. the only people who have any affinity for them tend to be the manosphere types who know their issues well and pretend to have answers. ultimately, the answer involves alt-right ideology which leads to trump or apolitical nihilism.
apolitical nihilism turns them into either dope, porn, or gaming addicts and takes them out of the discussion altogether. if they choose trump, he turns them into normal voters who dont do anything to upset the status quo and punch down at immigrants/minorities/women/LGBTQ when they need to blow off steam. functionally, it isnt any different than any other right wing voter in the past. they just have a different lingo, less church affiliation, and are often no longer occupying the same position in society as their parents.
the proud boys appeared kinda radical but they were always going to sell out to the republican power structure. their leader went from some capitalist that helped start vice, to a federal snitch who openly allowed a politician to control them. boogaloo boys are probably on the same path. real right wing radicals probably consider trump to be a slave to jews and would rather separate and run their own thing in the mountains somewhere.
Not looking to argue, but, in this country boys are taught to grow up and be fathers and husbands and provide for their families.
By the time they get 18--old enough to vote, the reality starts setting in, especially if they not going to college.
The majority of teachers are women--particularly white.
And boys are being told early; if you not measuring up to the standards of girls, you're failing.
Sorry, masculinity is a natural phenonium. And while there should be limits, boys ain't even being allowed to be themselves in grade school and college spaces.
Ain't much fight you can put up when parents only paid attention to report cards.
A lot of these online boys spaces are also teaching them ways to make money in nontraditional ways and are the only places in media affirming them.
Yes, 100% percent this places lean heavy conservative and racist.
But, the alternative is "step aside young men, girls are running shyt" or "You're success comes at the expense of women no matter how hard you work."
It's complicated.
But, in short--we've ignored them (young men/boys) and told them they don't really matter.
