One of the few major productions to plow through the height of the pandemic was the fifth Scream, which filmed last fall in Wilmington, North Carolina. While it won’t be slashing its way into theaters until next year, the filmmakers are currently in post-production tinkering with what will be the first without Wes Craven.

The current incarnation is being directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of the filmmaking group Radio Silence (Ready or Not, V/H/S, Southbound) and marks the return of Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott, David Arquette as Dewey Riley, and Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers.

In an interesting bit of news, Bloody Disgusting exclusively learned today that there are not only multiple versions of the [URL='https://bloody-disgusting.com/tag/scream/']Scream
screenplay, but also the movie, with the purpose to obfuscate fans who want to spoil the final product.

This was confirmed to me by the filmmakers earlier this morning.

This shouldn’t surprise hardcore fans of the Scream franchise as leaks have been a problem in the past. A Scream 2 draft from writer Kevin Williamson famously leaked online, forcing last minute rewrites that changed the movie’s ending. Craven and the team had to be much more careful going forward, and it sounds like the new creative team is following suit.

Is it possible they have “dummy” endings out there for the new film, to be extra safe?

Scream won’t be calling audiences back to theaters until Jan. 2022, but it sure does sound like the fun is just beginning. Are we being toyed with by the studio and filmmakers? I guess time will tell. All I know is that our obsession with Scream is part of what makes this entire process so damn entertaining.

:merchant: This is the time of night that i stumble across useless scary facts on yewwwwtoobe, WTF

The ocean is horrifying. I wish they had done a better job on that movie Underwater with Kristen Stewart. Being down there with that much darkness and pressure and things that are five times more massive than you.

I love the beach but that is my worse fear - getting swept out to sea or marooned somewhere.

Also 47 Meters Below did a really good job with the Portrayall of the deep sea underwater.

RLJE Films and Shudder Snag Rights to Killer Shark Film Great White

As long as people have been exploring the seas, stories have circled about the terrors that lurk beneath the surface, with the upcoming horror movie Great White set to be the latest adventure that will make audiences want to stay as far away from the ocean as possible. Ever since Stephen Spielberg's Jaws made waves back in 1975, audiences have taken immense joy in witnessing aquatic horrors unfold, ensuring that as long as movies are being made, filmmakers will deliver terrifying tales about massive beasts. RLJE Films aims to release Great White theatrically later this summer while the film is expected to make its streaming debut exclusively on Shudder later this year.

In Great White, a blissful tourist trip turns into a nightmare when five seaplane passengers are stranded miles from shore. In a desperate bid for survival, the group tries to make it to land before they either run out of supplies or are taken by a menacing terror lurking just beneath the surface

The Best Horror Movies of 2021 (So Far)

4. The Queen of Black Magic
Release date: January 29
Cast: Ario Bayu, Hannah Al Rashid, Adhisty Zara
Writer: Joko Anwar (Impetigore)
Director: Kimo Stamboel (Macabre)
Why it's good: A group of old friends gather at the creepy old orphanage in which they were raised, and all hell pretty much breaks loose from the jump. It's a remake of a 1981 film, and one of the coolest, craziest Indonesian horror films of the past several years. If you enjoy this one, you should also check out Satan's Slaves, May the Devil Take You, and May the Devil Take You Too.
Where to watch it: Shudder

3. Dementer
Release date: March 2
Cast: Brandy Edmiston, Larry Fessenden, Katie Groshong
Director-writer: Chad Crawford Kinkle (Jug Face)
Why it's good: This low-key shocker deals with a former cult member who begins to worry that her disturbing past is about to catch up with her and spill over into her new role as a caregiver. Backed by some excellent performances and some very disturbing themes, it's one of the year's strangest (and best) indie horror releases.
Where to watch it: VOD

2. Bloodthirsty
Release date: April 23
Cast: Lauren Beatty, Greg Bryk, Katharine King So, Michael Ironside
Writers: Wendy Hill-Tout, Lowell
Director: Amelia Moses (Bleed with Me)
Why it's good: A talented young singer gets the chance to work with a renowned (but creepy) producer, but of course his studio is located somewhere isolated and very creepy. And of course she goes anyway. But this woman is carrying a secret of her own, and it might be even worse than her new patron's. Like lots of very clever horror movies, Bloodthirstystarts out in one somewhat conventional direction before heading off in some more creative ones.
Where to watch it: VOD
