I meant to make this thread a couple weeks ago, but I guess now seems even more appropriate.

Earlier this year, that dude from Tulane basically died on the field. They performed an emergency tracheotomy(amongst of other things) on the field which helped bring him back. But his was from a head-on accidental collision with his own teammate. As it stands, he may never really walk again ie Eric LeGrand from Rutgers. I cant ever remember a player from a D-1 school or the NFL dying on live TV...that would NOT have been a good thing for the image of football.....but since he lived, I guess most ppl dont care.

In the NFL, there seems to be an increasing number of concussions damn near every week. Granted they are being reported more now b/c the NFL is "cracking down", but they do seem to be alot more prevalent.

Then just a couple weeks ago, if Big Ben had stayed in the game and taken one more hit, he could have died from a rib puncturing his aorta. Or even if he had slept wrong that night, it could've happened.

They say Junior Seau had no brain damage, but I still dont know if I buy that.

Now the thing w/ this Chiefs player, it could be a random act of cowardice on his part, but if he has any signs of brain damage, its not gonna be a good look.

I think it was Troy Aikman who said a while back that in 25-30 years from now, football may not be around. At first i thought it was crazy, but :manny:

Players are stronger and faster now. There is better padding which gives players fall sense of safety. And who knows what kind of PEDs they are taking to cope with demands playing football put on them?

As far as as portrayal in the media, 2012 has been a TERRIBLE year for the NFL (which is why I fully expect Goodell to be out as commish this off-season, or at least within the next 2 years).

However, I've been thoroughly entertained. :ehh:

While that may be apart of it, the game just is what it is.

You CAN'T change it....it's basically like a wild animal. Yet the bigger it gets monetarily, the NFL as a business feels like it can control it.

Without ruining the game, as they already have to a degree, you cant really change the way players hit each other or the effects that happen as a result.

NFL will not go away but I could see even more rules and precautions especially once these lawsuits come in and the NFL has to pay out. It COULD get to the point where some fans are turned away.. so while I don't see football going away I could see the overall popularity taking a hit and other sports may reap the benefits.

More Offense = More viewers, more revenues.
