The Antikythera Mechanism, discovered in 1901 on a Roman-era shipwreck in Greece, has perplexed computer experts for centuries. This hand-powered instrument was a remarkable time-keeping device, using a wing-up system to track the sun and planets meticulously. This ancient marvel also functioned as a calendar, accurately monitoring the phases of the moon and eclipses.

So much information has been lost to history or intentionally destroyed.

I’m going to bet this is tech that was stolen from the library of Alexandria or China. Maybe the Catholic Church and the masons know its source. Lol.

The part that’s interesting to me is how this technology didn’t proliferate in ancient times and how different the world would be today if religious groups and conquerors didn’t go around destroying historical records and marvels.

Why do we always assume people are smarter today.

The way humans "stumbled" upon bread, alcohol, swords, medicinal herbs, etc. is quite amazing.

I've always wondered what the world would be like if places like the Library of Alexandria was never burned to the ground.

It's all about lots and lots and lots of time.

Sometimes I believe in the theory that we are not the first “advanced” civilization that was here..think how much land is under water in the ocean and how deep it goes..if it was drained that’s essentially a “new earth”
Earth is prob in its 5th iteration of an advanced civilization

Care to explain that one? Considering that we can track evolution pretty well and only had intellectually advanced lifeforms fairly recently, considering the degree to which our own civilizations has drastically warped the face of the Earth, and considered how much non-decomposable shyt we've made that would still be found hundreds of thousands of years from now....exactly when would civilizations 1-4 have existed?
