I wouldn't allow my children to watch T.V./shows (I don't own a TV and will never own a TV). Although I like Neil deGrasse Tyson, I don't believe television is ideal for Black kids (1 day - 13 years) simply for the fact that based on research done on young Black kids, they -- from watching television programs -- will start to develop personality issues: low self-esteem and self-hate being the major issues.

Hopefully the parents control what she watches, but even Black children viewing Sesame street were developing personality issues. So, who knows what type of white supremacy may leak in even with seemingly benign shows.

As for COSMOS, a lot of glitz and glamour than I am used to, but otherwise, I think it is a good program for Black teens/adults.

I agree with you about television.

All children can be as bright as this child but they need lots of mental stimulation at birth and a highly controlled environment. I would also recommend homeschooling for families that are capable. Blacks in particular send their kids to schools where many of the other children are delayed by years and then scratch their head wondering why their own child starts to do poorly.

Traditional school forces a child to accept the values of their peers which is often negative. Instead of learning for the love of learning, a child simply does whatever the teacher wants in order to get a good grade and stay out of trouble. Everyone is forced to learn at the same pace.

Even an elite private school can be a bad choice for a black child. Frequently, there will be few other black children creating social problems like dating or expected to be the voice for all black people. There might also be great income disparities where a middle-class black child will feel poor going to school with wealthier kids.
