And R&B was always "urban" for each of it's eras. Except for like the earlier blues days when it was rural country folks. Seeing these guys in big butterfly collars and their hair laid to the side.

Edit: Not to mention a lot of the same artists did sound tracks to Blaxploitation films. Had dudes rocking mink coats and tons of jewelry.
