Holy shyt it sounds like a Tea Party ad, how little things have changed in 150 years.
you know I've been thinking lately that I'm personally not into supporting the idea of a huge welfare, price controls etc system either but it's like, what's the alternative? the alternative is for people to be able to live well on their own. What's the great ideas the anti-welfare folk have to create jobs and opportunities for people to be able to get off welfare?
There's no doubt that a segment of the population is demotivated and dependent on assistance but I don't think gov't assistant is really enough to live on for a long time -- especially not well -- and there is a heavy system of verification and time limits etc
I'm going to have to do some research on the actual nature of US gov't assistance policies and the history of the changes in them
