Oscar Valdez will make his junior lightweight debut against Andres Gutierrez on Nov. 30, Top Rank announced Tuesday afternoon. The 10-round bout will take place at the Chelsea Ballroom inside The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas.

In the co-feature, former two-division world titleholder Carl Frampton will face unbeaten Tyler McCreary in a 10-round bout.

Both fights will be streamed live on ESPN+ (10 p.m. ET/ 7 p.m. PT).

Valdez (26-0, 20 knockouts), who is originally from Nogales, Mexico and now resides in the Los Angeles suburb of West Covina, relinquished his WBO featherweight title in July after making six successful title defenses, including his last fight, which was a unanimous decision victory over Jason Sanchez.

The 28-year-old, who is trained by Eddy Reynoso, is now the mandatory challenger to face WBO junior lightweight titleholder Jamel Herring, per rules by the sanctioning body. Herring will defend the title against Lamont Roach on Nov. 9 in Fresno, California.

For now, Valdez has his sights set on Gutierrez.

“I’m looking forward to Nov. 30, as it’s my first fight as a super featherweight,” said Valdez, who is managed by Frank Espinoza. “I know my opponent is tough, but I plan on putting on a show for the fans. This is my third camp with Eddy Reynoso, and it’s going great. This is an important first step towards another world title, and I plan to make the most of it.”

Gutierrez (38-2-1, 25 KOs), who resides in the boxing hotbed of Guadalajara, Mexico, defeated former junior bantamweight titleholder Tomas Rojas by decision in his last bout on June 22. He has won his last three bouts since a technical decision to Abner Mares in October of 2017.

The 26-year-old is confident he can pull off a huge upset at the expense of Valdez.

“I am going to take full advantage of this opportunity,” said Gutierrez, who will be fighting for the third time in the United States on Nov. 30. “I hope Valdez is prepared for a super featherweight war. I’m now training in Las Vegas with the professor, Ismael Salas, and ‘Memo’ Heredia.”

Frampton (26-2, 15 KOs) was originally scheduled to fight Mexico’s Emmanuel Dominguez on Aug. 10 in Philadelphia, but had to withdraw from the fight five days before after a pillar inside a hotel lobby at fell onto his right hand, fracturing it.

The 32-year-old from Belfast, Northern Ireland will be facing McCreary at a catchweight of 128 pounds.

After winning world title belts at 122 and 126 pounds, Frampton believes he can achieve his goal of winning a world title belt in three weight divisions by defeating any of the junior lightweight titleholders.

“I’m delighted to be making a comeback after what has been a horrific year in my career,” said Frampton, who is co-promoted by Top Rank and Queensbury Promotions. “I didn’t get the Top Rank deal off to an ideal start, but coming back in Vegas is great for me, especially against a really strong opponent. It needed to be someone who would test me. It’s what I want, it’s what ESPN wants, what MTK Global wants and what Top Rank wants, so I’m 100 percent confident it’s the right move for me. McCreary is a quality opponent, but if I want to be competing against the top guys in the world, which I believe I can.”

McCreary (16-0-1, 7 KOs), who resides in Toledo, Ohio, defeated Jessie Cris Rosales of the Philippines by split-decision in his last bout on July 19.

Adames vs. Teixeira WBO Eliminator on Frampton-McCreary
By Random Hits

Published On Wed Nov 20, 2019, 04:03 PM EST

The rising iron-fisted star of the 154-pound division, Carlos “Caballo Bronco” Adames, will lock horns with Patrick Teixeira in a 12-round WBO junior middleweight title eliminator Saturday, Nov. 30 at The Chelsea inside The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.

Adames-Teixeira will headline the undercard stream (ESPN+, 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m.) before the super featherweight doubleheader featuring former featherweight world Oscar Valdez’s division debut against Andres Gutierrez and Carl Frampton’s showdown against the unbeaten Tyler McCreary (ESPN+, 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT).

"A victory on November 30 will mean one of the last steps en route to fulfilling my dream of becoming world champion," Adames said. “Without a doubt, this fight is the most important of my career. There is no room for mistakes. A victory guarantees me the opportunity to challenge for the world title. That's why I worked hard and conscientiously with my trainer, Robert García. I assure you that the Dominican Republic will have a world champion very soon.”

“I’m very excited to fight Carlos Adames in Las Vegas in this elimination fight for the world title,” Teixiera said. “I’m very happy for this opportunity. It’s an important fight for me because I will be able to pursue my dream of becoming a world champion.”

Adames (18-0, 14 KOs), the WBO No. 1 contender, is 5-0 with three knockouts since making his Top Rank debut on the Vasiliy Lomachenko-Jorge Linares undercard in May 2018. A native of Elías Piña, Dominican Republic, he is 3-0 in 2019, including a fourth-round KO over Frank Galarza to win the NABO junior middleweight title. He defended that belt June 28 with a unanimous decision over the late Patrick Day. Teixeira (30-1, 22 KOs), the WBO No. 2 contender, is seeking to become the next world champion from Brazil. He is 4-0 since suffering the lone defeat of his career, a second-round stoppage to Curtis Stevens at middleweight. A southpaw boxer-puncher, he last fought April 13 in Monterrey, Mexico, defending his WBO Latino junior middleweight belt with a majority decision over Mario Alberto Lozano.

In other undercard action:

In an all-SoCal battle, Glendale native Adam “Blunose” Lopez (13-1, 6 KOs) will make the first defense of his Junior NABF featherweight belt in a 10-rounder versus Moreno Valley’s Luis Coria (12-2, 7 KOs). Lopez is coming off a come-from-behind KO win May 25 against Puerto Rican prospect Jean Carlos Rivera.

Arnold Barboza Jr. (22-0, 9 KOs), the pride of South El Monte, Calif., will defend his Junior NABF super lightweight belt versus longtime contender William Silva (27-2, 15 KOs). Silva has two in a row since a July 2018 knockout loss to top lightweight contender Teofimo Lopez, while Barboza is looking to score his third knockout win of the year. Barboza stopped former world champion Mike Alvarado April 12 on the Vasiliy Lomachenko-Anthony Crolla undercard.

Japanese super lightweight contender Andy Hiraoka (14-0, 9 KOs), stablemate of pound-for-pound sensation Naoya Inoue, will make his American debut in an eight-rounder against Rogelio Casarez (13-8, 5 KOs).

Welterweight prospect Brian “La Bala” Mendoza (18-0, 13 KOs) hopes to extend his knockout streak to five against the hard-hitting Larry Gomez (9-1, 8 KOs) in an eight-rounder.

Italian heavyweight KO artist Guido “The Gladiator” Vianello (5-0, 5 KOs) will fight Colby Madison (8-1-2, 5 KOs) in a six-rounder.

Jared Anderson (1-0, 1 KO), fresh off a first-round knockout in his pro debut Oct. 26 in Reno, Nev., will return in short order in a four-rounder against Stephen Kirnon (2-2-1, 1 KO). Anderson was Team USA’s top-ranked amateur when he signed with Top Rank in September.

Xander Zayas (1-0, 1 KO), the 17-year-old welterweight prodigy who scored a first-round KO in his pro debut Oct. 26, will face Virgel Windfield (2-2-1, 2 KOs) in a four-rounder.

I’m tempted to put money on mcgreary. I think if he works from the outside and keeps framp occupied he’ll land a decision.

Adames, Teixeira To Fight For WBO Interim 154-Pound Title
By Keith Idec

Published On Wed Nov 27, 2019, 12:08 PM EST

Carlos Adames and Patrick Teixeira were supposed to meet Saturday night in an elimination match to determine the mandatory challenger for the WBO’s junior middleweight title.

Now that WBO 154-pound champion Jaime Munguia officially has moved up to middleweight, the WBO has sanctioned Adames-Teixeira as a fight for an interim portion of that championship in Las Vegas.

Carl Moretti, vice president of boxing operations for Bob Arum’s Top Rank Inc., confirmed to BoxingScene.com on Wednesday that Adames-Teixeira now is an interim 154-pound championship match. ESPN.com first reported that the WBO made Adames-Teixeira a title fight.

Moretti also said that because Munguia is in the process of vacating his title that the Adames-Teixeira winner likely will be elevated from interim champion to world champion next week at the WBO’s annual convention in Tokyo.

The Dominican Republic’s Adames (18-0, 14 KOs) is ranked No. 1 among the WBO’s junior middleweight contenders. Brazil’s Teixeira (30-1, 22 KOs) is ranked No. 2 by the WBO.

Mexico’s Munguia (34-0, 27 KOs) will make his debut as a full-fledged middleweight January 11 in San Antonio. Munguia is set to box Ireland’s Gary O’Sullivan (30-3, 21 KOs) in a 12-rounder that night at The Alamodome.

Adames-Teixeira will be streamed Saturday by ESPN+ as part of a card from The Chelsea inside The Cosmopolitan.

That show, which will start at 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT, will be headlined by former WBO featherweight champion Oscar Valdez. Mexico’s Valdez (26-0, 20 KOs) is scheduled to meet Mexican veteran Andres Gutierrez (38-2-1, 25 KOs) in a 10-round, 130-pound bout.

Former featherweight and junior featherweight champ Carl Frampton also is slated to fight on this show Saturday night. Northern Ireland’s Frampton (26-2, 15 KOs) and Tyler McCreary (16-0-1, 7 KOs), of Toledo, Ohio, are set to square off in a 10-rounder before the Valdez-Gutierrez bout.

Frampton will fight for the first time since IBF featherweight champ Josh Warrington (30-0, 7 KOs) defeated him by unanimous decision 11 months ago in Manchester, England.

Oscar Valdez-Adam Lopez Set After Absurd Gutierrez Weight
By Keith Idec

Published On Fri Nov 29, 2019, 06:18 PM EST

Adam Lopez suddenly has a much tougher fight Saturday night in Las Vegas.

BoxingScene.com has learned Lopez accepted Bob Arum’s offer Friday to fight Oscar Valdez on barely 24 hours’ notice because Valdez’s original opponent, Andres Gutierrez, came in an absurd 11 pounds overweight for their 10-round, 130-pound fight. Before accepting more money to face Valdez in the main event, Lopez met his contractual obligation by weighing in at 126 pounds for what was supposed to be a 10-round featherweight fight against Luis Coria on the Valdez-Gutierrez undercard.

Because Lopez agreed to move up a whole weight class to fight him, Valdez accepted a rehydration clause that’ll limit how much weight he can gain between Friday’s weigh-in and Saturday morning.

Arum – whose company, Top Rank Inc., is the promoter of Saturday’s show at The Cosmopolitan – cursed Gutierrez and ordered him off the stage Friday once he stepped on the Nevada State Athletic Commission’s scale at 141 pounds. Coria (12-2, 7 KOs), of Moreno, Valley, California, won’t fight Saturday night because was Lopez was elevated into the main event, but he’ll be paid the purse he was supposed to earn for opposing Lopez.

Mexico’s Valdez (26-0, 20 KOs) will make his debut as a full-fledged junior lightweight in his fight against Lopez (13-1, 6 KOs), of Glendale, California. Valdez vacated his WBO featherweight title following his last fight to move up from 126 pounds to 130.

ESPN+ will stream Valdez-Lopez as the main event of a nine-bout card. Coverage is set to start at 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT.

The stream also will include a 10-round bout between Carl Frampton and Tyler McCreary. Northern Ireland’s Frampton (26-2, 15 KOs), a former featherweight and super bantamweight champion, will fight for the first time in nearly a year against McCreary (16-0-1, 7 KOs), of Toledo, Ohio.

Immediately preceding the Frampton-McCreary match, the Dominican Republic’s Carlos Adames (18-0, 14 KOs) will battle Brazil’s Patrick Teixeira (30-1, 22 KOs) in a 12-round fight for the WBO’s interim junior middleweight title. The winner between Adames, the WBO’s No. 1 contender at 154 pounds, and the second-ranked Teixeira likely will be elevated to world champion at the WBO’s annual convention next week in Tokyo because Jaime Munguia (34-0, 27 KOs) is expected to relinquish its 154-pound crown.
