Heavyweight contender Bryant Jennings, seeking another world title opportunity, and Oscar Rivas, looking for his first, will square off in a scheduled 12-round bout on Jan. 18 at the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York, Top Rank announced on Tuesday.

The fight will headline a Top Rank Boxing on ESPN+ card (9:30 p.m. for main card with stream of preliminaries beginning at 6:30 p.m. ET).

The deal for Jennings-Rivas is done but Rivas (24-0, 17 KOs) is scheduled to fight Brazil's Fabio Maldonado (26-0, 25 KOs) on Dec. 1 in Quebec City on the undercard of light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson's defense against Oleksandr Gvozdyk. Rivas must win the fight and come out unscathed for the Jan. 18 bout to go forward.

"I've been in this situation before. This is not a tall order at all," Jennings said. "The job is to stay focused. I'm going to keep grinding and not take anybody lightly. Talk is cheap."

Jennings (24-2, 14 KOs), 34, of Philadelphia, will look to extend his winning streak to six since signing with Top Rank in mid-2017, following a 20-month layoff caused in part by issues with his previous promoter. Before the layoff, Jennings had lost two fights in a row, a unanimous decision challenging then-heavyweight world champion Wladimir Klitschko in April 2015 followed by a seventh-round knockout to top contender Luis "King Kong" Ortiz eight months later.

Rivas, 31, a 2008 Colombian Olympian who has fought his entire professional career out of Montreal, will be taking on by far his most notable pro opponent in Jennings.

''I've waited for this opportunity for a very long time," Rivas said. "Jennings is an excellent boxer. He is a world-class fighter and exactly the kind of challenge I was hoping to face. It is now time to take care of business and step up for the real challenges.''

Undercard

Shakur Stevenson, the 21-year-old wunderkind who captured a silver medal for the United States at the 2016 Rio Olympics, will begin his 2019 campaign with his toughest professional bout to date.

Stevenson (9-0, 5 KOs) will battle Jessie Cris Rosales in a 10-rounder for the IBF Intercontinental and WBC Continental Americas featherweight belts on Friday, Jan. 18 at Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, N.Y.

Stevenson-Rosales will serve as the co-feature to the Bryant Jennings-Oscar Rivas heavyweight main event, both of which will stream live beginning at 9:30 p.m. on ESPN+. The undercard, including the highly anticipated pro debut of former Indian amateur standout Vikas “The Indian Tank” Krishan, will also stream live on ESPN+ beginning at 6:30 p.m. ET.

Promoted by Top Rank, in association with Groupe Yvon Michel (GYM), tickets, priced at $79, $62, and $45, are available at the Turning Stone Resort Box Office by calling 315-361-7469 or online at Ticketmaster (www.ticketmaster.com).

“I am ready to fight the best featherweights in the world. 2019 is going to be a year to remember for me,” Stevenson said. “Rosales is a tough opponent, but he’s going to be no match for my speed and power.”

Rosales (22-1-1, 10 KOs), a 27-year-old native of Cebu City, Cebu, Philippines, will be making his U.S. debut against Stevenson. He is coming of a second-round KO victory in March against Ibrahim Balla (13-1 at the time) in Altona North, Victoria, Australia. The only blemish on his record came via second-round KO in 2017 to former two-division world champion Jhonny Gonzalez.

Krishan, the most highly decorated amateur in the history of Indian boxing, will take on Steven Andrade (3-3, 2 KOs) in a six-round super welterweight bout. A 26-year-old southpaw, Krishan represented his homeland at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics and became the only Indian fighter in history to capture gold medals at both the Asian and Commonwealth Games. He made headlines at the 2012 Olympics for defeating Errol Spence Jr., only for the Amateur International Boxing Association (AIBA) to overturn the result a few hours later because of fouls that Krishan committed during the match.

"I was an amateur for a very long time, and the time was finally right to turn pro,” Krishan said. I do not take this opportunity lightly, and I look forward to showcasing my skills to boxing fans from around the world. I also want to show that Indians are not only good in medical studies, but we know how to fight as well!!

In other action:

Super welterweight contender Carlos “Caballo Bronco” Adames (15-0, 12 KOs) will take on the veteran Juan Ruiz (21-3, 13 KOs) in a fight scheduled for 10 or eight rounds. Adames is coming off a second-round destruction against Joshua Conley on the Terence Crawford-Jose Benavidez Jr. undercard Oct. 13 in Omaha, Neb.

Robson Conceicao (10-0, 5 KOs), a Brazilian who won a gold medal in front of his home fans at the 2016 Rio Olympics, will continue his march toward a 130-pound title shot in an eight-rounder versus Hector Ambriz (12-8-2, 6 KOs).

Former super featherweight world champion Jason Sosa (21-3-4, 15 KOs) will face the rugged Moises Delgadillo (17-18-2, 9 KOs) in a super featherweight bout scheduled for 10 or eight rounds.

Fazliddin Gaibnazarov (6-0, 3 KOs), who captured Olympic gold for his native Uzbekistan in 2016, will fight Ricardo Garcia (14-4-1, 9 KOs) in an eight-round super lightweight bout. Garcia has never been knocked out as a pro.

Heavyweight prospect Cassius Chaney (14-0, 8 KOs) will look to extend his KO streak to four against Michael Glasscox (6-2-2, 5 KOs) in a six-rounder.

Bryant Jennings and Oscar Rivas top the first ESPN+ boxing telecast of 2019, as they meet in a pivotal 12-round heavyweight bout Friday evening at Turning Stone Resort & Casino in Verona, New York.

The pair of aspiring heavyweight contenders both came in fighting fit at Thursday’s weigh-in ahead of their crossroads bout. Jennings (24-2, 14KOs) tipped the scales at a trim and ready 225.25 pounds, while Canada’s Rivas (25-0, 17KOs) weighed in at 234 pounds.

Philadelphia’s Jennings enters the contest riding a five-fight win streak, all coming since returning to the ring in Aug. ’17 upon his signing with Top Rank. The move was preceded by a 20-month ring hiatus following back-to-back losses to then-World heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko in Apr. ’15 and then-unbeaten Luis Ortiz later that December.

The 7th round knockout loss to Ortiz also took place at Turning Stone, with Friday’s bout marking his first fight back at the scene of the crime. He enters the bout having rallied to drop and stop Alexander Dimitrenko in the 9th round of their back-and-forth thriller last August in Atlantic City.

While Rivas comes in as an undefeated contender, he’s also riding a five-fight win streak of sorts. The 31-year old boxer—who represented his native Colombia in the 2008 Beijing Olympics—overcame a rough 2016 which saw a scheduled bout with then-unbeaten prospect Gerald Washington fall by the wayside due to an old medical issue which prompted the California State Athletic Commission to deny him a license at the time.

As a result, Rivas’ 2016 ring campaign was limited to a pair of club fights. He hasn’t necessarily seen a significant spike in competition, but has enjoyed a steady stream of ring activity following a 14-month break, scoring five wins since returning for good in Sept. ’17.

Friday’s bout will mark just his second in the United States, the lone other such occasion coming in a June ’15 1st round knockout of Jason Pettaway in Shelton, Washington.

In the televised co-feature, 2016 Olympic Silver medalist Shakur Stevenson (9-0, 5KOs) faces Philippines’ Jessie Cris Rosales in a 10-round featherweight bout.

Stevenson weighed 125.5 pounds for his first fight since a highlight-reel 1st round knockout of Viorel Simion last October on ESPN. The 21-year old southpaw from Newark, New Jersey is among the top prospects while still three months shy of two full years in the pro ranks.

Rosales (22-1-1, 10KOs) weighed 124.25 pounds for his first fight in the United States. The 27-year old is coming off of a 2nd round knockout of Ibrahim Balla last March in Australia, helping move past a knockout loss to former two-division titlist Jhonny Gonzalez eight months prior.

On the preliminary portion of the live stream, Vikas Krishan will make his celebrated pro debut in a four-round bout versus Steven Andrade, who weighed 151.75 pounds.

Krishan—who weighed 152 pounds for the occasion—fought in the 2012 London and 2016 Rio Olympics for his native India, where he is considered the country’s greatest amateur boxer of all time.
