I'll be seeing it next month so I won't be watching any trailers of this. Either way the buzz seems like Lynne Ramsay redeemed herself for fukking over her Hollywood career before it even started.

You can at least watch that teaser trailer from 3 months ago i posted, that gives away nothing and is dope.

There's not even a US release date, IMDB just says the Netherlands gets it in October :francis: :smugford:

Saw it today and it is like a mixture of Leon, Drive, Oldboy and Taxi Driver but shot as an arthouse character study (same style as We Need To Talk About Kevin), so don't expect an action fest. Lynne Ramsay tells the story with an intimate focus on PTSD and leaves most of the violence in the background, taking a deeper look at the direct aftermath.

How's Phoenix in the film? Is he Oscar worthy in this?

Eh, I never judge performances like that because Phoenix is incredible here but this is not an Oscar role. He's a man suffering from intense PTSD and violently self destructive. To sum up the strength of his portrayal, there is one moment towards the end where I started to wonder what kind of memory/experience he dug up from his personal life to call up that kind of emotional outburst as an actor because I refuse to believe anyone could "fake" that kind of emotion.

Damn! Sounds heavy. Good to hear his performance was good.

Thanks for the response.
