Why is this happening?

What is the Indie Parity Clause?

The indie parity clause dates back to the Xbox 360, where MS mandated that you could not release a game on the 360 at a later date than any other version without having exclusive free content for Xbox owners.

Since the launch of the XB1, MS has revised that policy for the worse. Now that loophole is closed, and devs are not allowed to release an XB1 version of their game, period, if they have already released it on PS4. At the time of the indie parity announcement, MS allowed games that were already announced for PS4 to be released at a later date on XB1. Those games included Contrast, Warframe, and many other PS4 launch window titles. There are now no more titles that fall under this loophole.

There are three ways around this clause. The first is to release your game simultaneously on PS4 and XB1. The second is to launch first on XB1 and release a PS4 version later. Finally, the third is asking Phil Spencer for a free pass, which has NDA'd guidelines and specifics that I cannot get into, nor know the specifics of.

Taken from Gaf...

Dang. I guess indie developers are going to start going PS4's way if this clause stays up. And it's not just shytty games it's all the indie games. (Had to say that before you know who jumps in here and starts talking ish)...lol

It was common sense this was going to be the end result. Horrible policy, especially when Sony has nothing like this in place.

I'm sure a chorus of clowns will come in here saying indies don't matter. Well, if they aren't system sellers, what is the point of this policy?

Sony is basically getting free, exclusive console content without having to do anything.

Still don't get why they bothered with it. Indie is surging and they are trying their best to close the gates for more just because it wasn't on XBox first?

I have a PS4 and will probably play none of these games. Street Fighter 5 yeah that's something to cry about. These games. I don't even know what most of them are. That being said you can't be #2 and have a policy like that. That's pretty stupid.

That shyt is the reason why we Pinball Arcade players had to wait over a year for season 2 to be released :pacspit:

Idk, Microsoft must be hating themselves for missing out on this piff

:heh:

Idk where I stand on indies tbh, like the 8-bit/2D type games I really can't get into. But games like Papo & Yo and Brothers where some of my favorites. Hell, I even finished the Last Tinker.... twice.

But yes, it's a dumb ass clause and it really should be dropped if MS wants to attract more independent developers to their platform.
