With 15 years of perspective can we all now agree Bill Clinton was a shytty President?

-Repealed Glass-Steagall and signed the Commodities Futures Modernization Act, eliminating the barrier between commercial lending and proprietary lending, and rejecting regulation of derivatives.

-Signed that omnibus "tough on crime" bill that pushed for national 3 strikes laws and mandatory minimums including crack possession, rewarded states that took the most punitive measures with federal funds, provided billions for creating new prisons, created new capital crimes, etc. The prison population more than doubled in rate and more than doubled in number than it did under Reagan and Bush Sr. combined. Locked up more black men than any President in history.

-Responded to the embassy bombings in Tanzania and Kenya by bombing a pharmaceutical factory in Sudan based on bogus conjecture about it being used to manufactured chemical weapons for Al Qaeda, resulting in tens of thousands of deaths of Sudanese people. Didn't get Bin Laden or really do anything to Al Qaeda.

-Didn't get healthcare reform passed.

-Passed Newt Gingrich's Contract for America-derived racist ass welfare reform, which left entitlements to states, resulting in states with high black populations having the most stringent eligibility requirements and states with higher white people populations have least stringent eligibility requirements.

-:cape: for Bosnians, but did nothing while Rwanda drowned in blood.

-Bombed a Chinese embassy...by mistake...or so they say.

-Signed NAFTA.

-Helped move the Democratic party further to the right with his dikk Morris "triangulation" bullshyt.

Of course he said "oh my bad" about most of this shyt years later after the damage was already done.

The economic growth under his presidency and the surplus left were a result of Greenspan's artificially low interest rates, the dotcom boom and the asset bubbles they created anyway, not by him balancing the budget with tax increases and spending cuts.

As shytty of a President as Bush was, he takes a lot of heat because of the shyt handed too him by Clinton: namely the recession of the early 2000's and the surpluses evaporating that happened after the dotcom bubble burst and the financial collapse.

Obvious Bush's two wars and tax cuts for the rich were terrible policy, but they're not the reason by the surpluses turned to deficits, and the Clinton's deregulation of Wall Street directly led to the financial collapse. Bush was just too incompetent to do anything but make the pre-existing problems even worse.

2nd most overrated President of the 20th century next to Saint Ronnie.

IMO Obama is more overrated and will be, but Clinton was worse if that makes any sense. Clinton was a very bad president and dangerous IMO because he represented the intellegencia corporate wing of "the powers that be" which are more clandestine, rather than Bush's obvious bad guys in the Neo Cons et al.

I often find myself thinking the same when I'm on the receiving end of one of Barnone's stern talking to's.

Uncertain grounds
c/s clinton is sanctified and he is probably teetering on average/below average. he was right place right time for the dot.com bubble..just like reagan, he is looked upon more favorably than he should be due to charisma.

in reality, people should probably give at-least 8-10 years before passing full evaluation of an administration. clinton had a lot of missteps (as noted) and ultimately overreached in his stewardship of a strong economy. he shouldve rode that out more like eisenhower did

its funny that billary is running on the strength of bill's administration and repubs keep trying to stir up comparisons to reagan when they are both wildly overrated

By...........who? :patrice:

I've never seen a president the right hates more, and plenty of people on the left are real :manny: about his career.

I do agree that he will be looked upon *relatively* favorably in the future, though.
Obama's biggest negatives are on foreign policy aggression and civil liberties. I can be honest and admit I don't care as much about most of that because I don't see it affecting me and mines personally.

I don't have huge gripes with with most of his domestic policy, all things considered.
